Midas Muffler on Fourth Avenue and 27-28th Streets is excellent, honest and cheap. I've been going there for over ten years and they do much more than just mufflers, including check-ups, inspections and oil changes.
  • Well this seems to be just SPAM from 2 first time posters
  • Even though it's pretty obvious SPAM...

I recommend MINH's on 3rd Ave near the BQE entrance (around 15th St?). First took it there on recommendation from another poster here after Pep Boys gave me a crazy expensive estimate on what I'd need fixed to pass inspection. MINH's estimate was less than half of that amount. I've gone there a couple of more times since. They (at least seem like they) are honest, and quick and reasonable.
  • Bear Service, next to the car wash on 4th Avenue @ 1st Street has been pretty, pretty good to me in the past, and did all the necessary things needed to keep my car on the road. Give them a try.
  • After spending years (and thousands of dollars) on bad, dishonest mechanics, I finally found one who does great work, is honest and ethical, and communicates very well: Mitchell's Auto Repair @ 1018 39th street off of Ft. Hamilton.

Mitchell runs a very small shop, so you have to call ahead. but I can't recommend this guy strongly enough. I suggest googling him and see if my praise is warranted.

    good luck

  • I am a fan of Mitchell's Auto Repair as well. Took my vintage Mustang in there and he dialed it right in.
  • My response is definitely not spam. Don't quit your day job.
  • Try
    Nok Auto Repair
    www.nokauto.com

    325 St Marks Ave
    Brooklyn, NY 11238-3603
    (718) 398-0353

They are really nice to me when I go. I don't feel pressured, rushed or scammed.
I hate going to an auto shop and feeling like they are up to no good.

They are a small place and I feel like they are looking to build a lasting relationship with their customer. I am going to use them again soon for my tune up, and to prepare my car for the winter.
  • love minhs. (not spam)
  • I'd actually like to second Midas...Although I don't currently go there, I did when I had a domestic car and was very happy with service and prices there.

Wow, Mr. Salerno. I didn't realize you learned how to use teh internets. Give Jet a kiss from me
  • While I had a car in the neighborhood, I took it to Alba - 4th ave between 1st and Garfield. Prices were reasonable, they always fixed it right the first time.
  • went to MINH's last year on recommendations from Brooklynian posters here... nice, clean shop, and fair price in my opinion... they even worked with me to get the price down a bit which I found encouraging

and they even sent me a holiday card :D
  • I used to go to Nok. Their service was very good, but I found them VERY expensive the last time I had work done. I had my breaks replaced over the summer there. They basically went out while I was driving back from the airport. I glided my car over to Nok fearing for myself and my car. They charged me $465. I didn't have much choice, didn't want to risk driving anyplace else and not being able to stop.

Since then I went to 811 atlantic corp, for muffler work. They seem nice, fair and honest. Atlantic and Vanderbilt, next to the car wash. Its in the neighborhood and I like being able to walk home if they need to work on my car all day.
  • Millenium Motors on 3rd ave and 8th street is a great shop. I've had tons of work done there, and know others who have too. I highly recommend Andreas and his guys.
  • I have had great experiences at Lee's Auto Service on Smith St and 3rd ave.

He would not replace the transmission on my Mother in Laws '91 Accord because he said the job would cost her more than the car is worth. Thats is honisty

The Village Voices likes them too.

  • But what if your MIL wanted the transmission replaced anyway, would he have done it?
  • He did not want her to pay more for a repair than the car was worth.
