So, when do we get a real restaurant/ w bar on Franklin ?
OK, so now we have some good coffeehaus options on Franklin, can even get fresh baguettes in one of the coffee shops. Organic items at Nams. Amazing to see how things have changed in a years time. However we need a real restaurant with a good hang out bar serving real drinks, steaks, bugers, tapas etc. I'd love to have a foie gras close to home...We always have to head elsewhere for this, Chez Oskar, Ici or Manhattan (le singe verte)..... Im looking forward to trying the new place on Vanderbilt, and I really like Cornelius too, but Id love to have a nice spot nearby. Something like Jules in the East Village...
There are so many new transplants from Manhattan and elsewhere in NCH. Im sure someone would find that they good do really good business here, as there are so few options for quality dining in NCH.

i agree, it would be nice. i hear Franklin Park is opening a restaurant on Franklin Ave, but not sure what it will be like, yet.
Saje is closed (and I know there was drama and all that about the owners) but the food was good (in my opinion) and offered dinner and a bar and all of that. I was surprised that it closed and something similar didn't reopen there.
Abigails is still too hit-or-miss for me to go on a regular basis, but it's a great option on Classon for food and drinks too.
I would imagine that soon Franklin Ave will get some good sit-down places. I love Bombay Masala for sit-down on Franklin, but it doesn't fit your description of what you are looking for. -
although not "dining", I miss Homage.

i do too! we used to go there once a week.
and they had just installed a bar right before the fire. the owner talked about changing the menu to add more entrees that weren't burgers and salads -- i really hope it reopens. the prospect of Franklin Park's burger place makes me nervous and the fact that I haven't seen any work happening in months! -
They've had a remodeling crew in there during the day, with the gate up, for the past 2 or 3 weeks

I don't think I've ever had foie gras, but to the point, why should I or anyone else have to live according to another person's likes and/or income?
One guy wants foie gras, while another struggles to pay his rent - hi, welcome to Earth, planet full of 6 billion people who aren't carbon copies of each other.
One guy likes the Yankees, another follows soccer; Crown Fried Chicken/Abigail's; South 95/Franklin Park; blunts/coke - hi, welcome to Crown Heights, where everyone's able to have a personal preference without being judged by some tool.

newcomers are struggling to pay rent too. they ALSO may not want to shop at all the local wig stores, hair salons, and 1,00000 west indian places.

i agree, Mr. Met. I am a "newcomer" if you will (4 years in CH) and I don't have excess cash to throw around once bills are payed. BUT, if I'm going to go out to eat or shop, I want it to be worth my money. I'd rather eat out once a week at a nice place than every day at the bullet-proof Chinese place or the fried chicken place (like a lot of my neighbors/students do)

However, there is a new sign at the corner of Franklin "Fish Shop II: Shimp, fish, lobster". It's power appears to come from Homage, making me think it will have a new purpose once it re-opens. -

Fish Shop II was the restaurant that was at that location previous to Homage. It is long gone now.

So noted. ...their sign appears in remarkably good shape.
P.S. no workmen were spotted in Homage, but their were some tools. ...but it looks like there is lots of work to be done before it could open again. Certainly won't be open before Dec 1. -
The past couple years, Franklin Ave has seen the opening of Bombay Masala, Bristen's, Franklin Park, two coffee shops, Lily & Fig and some others I'm sure I'm forgetting. That's just between the Parkway and Atlantic. What kind of progress are you expecting, you who ask about foie gras?

It was at one time open. I'd gotten fish and chips from there a few times back in 2004 or so. -

I didn't see this until just now, but I just settled on the couch with a bottle of wine and just got off the phone with them. yumm...
Also, the Franklin Park restaurant is really coming along -- the front used to be a gaping hole, but now is all framed out and looks nice. I did see a counter, though, and it isn't huge so I am *assuming* it is going to be more takeout than not.
