Heads Up on St John Btwn Underhill Washington — Brooklynian

Heads Up on St John Btwn Underhill Washington

I think I may nearly have missed being mugged on this strip mid-afternoon recently. Happened to look back and noticed a 20-something (about 6' tall) with a dark hat and light green hoodie (wings surrounding a skull on the back of the jacket) literally right on my heels as I walked down the isolated strip. I approached an area that was more populated and he broke off. I'm not sure this was a near miss -perhaps the guy was just an unusually close walker and harmless. I've been in the neighborhood for many years now without incident and admittedly feel silly posting a "what-if", but this put an unfamiliar chill down my spine. Just a heads up for everyone to be alert. Peace.

I keep hearing about people reporting mugging, particularly around Crown Heights. Why not set up a neighborhood watch? Or if that's inconvenient during the day, maybe get the neighborhood to chip in and pay for a private security service.

It could help keep the streets safe.

Wow. Wing-ed earth you have your head in the clouds. Clearly you do not live in Crown Heights...

    That block sucks.
  • "Crown Heights" is spreading its borders to include up to Underhill? Now I've heard everything....

But seriously, I used to live on that block of Prospect Heights (St Johns btw Underhill and Washington) and it was normally only sketchy down at the Washington end... I lived basically in the middle. The guys on the stoops down at the Underhill end seemed to keep an eye on things... at least it seemed that way.
  • What did the guy look like. You only told us what he was wearing. Was he white, black, asian, spanish...?
  • Must've been African/American or he/she wouldn't have had the fear of ALMOST
    being mugged.
Maybe he/she should warn us about, interest rates mugging us and the
rest of the invisable muggers among us. (White/Black/Asian/lotterychemicals.
    Thank you for this warning.
  • I think it's unfortunate the the OP is getting snarky comments from Fancy....personally I appreciate the heads-up and suspect that the OP left out the would-be mugger's race because s/he knew s/he'd get slammed for including it.
  • I agree, GoodProspect. Funny, he/she still got slammed by yet another hysterical PC type. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

OP told us why he/she thought it was an almost-mugging. Read the post again. I think we were given instincts and gut feelings by god or whoever we got them from for a reason.

OP had a sense things weren't right - calls it an "unfamiliar feeling" even though s/he has lived in the area for many years. So I don't think this is a case of someone thinking every black guy walking behind them is a mugger. Your PC meter is all messed up.
  • You're right Saskia, God does give us a warning, if we're able to hear the right voice.
We all have opinions. That's what's wrong with the world, too many
    opinions. What happen to truth?
    Have a great forum

And, THANK YOU FOR THE WARNING. YOU MADE ME REMEMBER TO
    WATCH ALL & PRAY.
  • Wow... Fancy just activated the "Crazy Meter"!! Forget worrying about a guy following you too close on an empty street -- keep an eye on Fancy.
  • Heads up? It's not known as Crazy Alley for nothing.

Having a hard time typing while laughing. Neighborhood watch is why these guys are able to mug, stab and rape people. When people are getting their teeth knocked out and are afraid to call the cops, when the cops tell you that getting thrown in front of a bus is no big deal, yes there is a watch being kept just for the wrong side. Not a load of no snitchin t shirts in your area I guess.
