  • I'm so excited to pick up a baguette there.

In other news, the Rita Knox for rent sign is off the window at Elementi....
  • workers are in the Olive Vine space on 7th Ave/15th Street doing work on the windows and inside. Anybody know what's going in there? I was in my car, so I couldn't ask
  • Olive Vine space is becoming Thistle Hill Tavern. More info:

  • someone told me that it's going to be "upscale italian"

if that's true, it's not really needed in ps, do you think?

i'm so glad the olive vine near me is still open. i've been eating there more lately to make sure they have some good business...

Oh, thanks. I think I read this once before but was too lazy to see if I missed it :-)
  • oh, well thistle hill tavern actually sounds great.

    guess i heard wrong...
  • OPEN:
Blue Hill Bakery on 5th Ave near 17th. I don't frequent bakeries, but I walked in to find it's not merely a bakery--but serve soups, sandwiches, and all sorts of savory goodies. Yummy!!
    OPEN:
South. A new bar where the wine bar was on 5th Ave near 17th. Wish them well!
CLOSED: T, the Thai restaurant on 7th & Carroll on 2nd floor. sign o'the times.
IN TRANSITION? Lopez Bakery on 5th near 19th. Saw a for rent sign. Will miss their tamales.
CLOSED: Weird women's clothing place on 5th near Sackett. What was that anyway?!
  • Had a baguette from almondine. It was perfect. As good as amy's bread. And the guys there were really nice. Check it out.
  • I assume this is a new branch of Jacques Torres' Almondine in Dumbo? If so, the chocolate chip cookies are one of the best in the city.

Soups? I'll have to check this one out since I'm soup obsessed.

Almondine is indeed hard to spot unless it's after dark and you can see that a store is obviously there now.
  • Lopez Bakery is closing? that stinks, hopefully they are just moving.
  • Chipster - what was the name of the wine bar that closed?
  • Fuck...can someone find out what's happening with Lopez Bakery? I love that place and the fact that the whole family works there.

    Was it Vin Rouge?

    Gonna try calling them now

Just called Lopez Bakery, they are moving 2 doors away to a bigger space. They said there will even be room for a couple of tables and chairs for people to sit. I said I saw the 'for rent" sign and was worried and they thanked me for worrying. I am so glad they are not closing up!!
  • YAY!!! Expanding...even better.
  • Anyone know what's going on in the spot on 5th Ave (somewhere between 3 and 6th, can't remember) that says something like "Rico's Cafe" or "Rico's Place" in the window? It seems like that's kind of new.
  • Hudson Cleaners isn't going anywhere; they're just consolidating to the front two-thirds of the space, so the owner tells me.
  • I just noticed a new sign for "preggos pizza" or something like that on 5th Ave between 5/6th and it looks like it's over the little bake shop, next to the hot dog store. Looks like there's a fair amount of renovation to go in the shop, but they've got the sign up.

Can anyone eat there or just expectant women?
  • Haha...not enough room in that space for many baby bumps! I thought it looked odd and could have misread it, but I think that's what it said.
  • re Hudson Cleaners: this is, indeed the case but it seems to have been taken over by new people. The woman who owned for years is mia. Does anyone know if she sold?
  • I see the new Prego Pizza across from MS51 is being worked on. But from what I can tell it's only being worked on in the evening and maybe weekends? Odd. Are they doing it in their spare time??? The former candy shop between Prego and Willies is supposed to become a Vietnamese sandwich shop. More bubble tea anyone?
  • Prego is open (anyone been?) and the sign is up for the Slope's newest Vietnamese Bubble Tea joint.
  • which vietnamese place is that blucat?

the one next to prego pizza or the one going in on 5th and president next to matter??
  • belzjm wrote: which vietnamese place is that blucat?

the store between Prego and Willie's
  • Not new, but the Old Navy at Atlantic is remodeling and apparently getting rid of the second floor and "something else" is going in up there.

So many sandwich shops! I just saw the sign for the one next to Matter.

  • The Atlantic mall (or whatever its real name is) is just aweful
I do shop at old Navy from time to time but could care less if it were half the size in that Mall.
  • D'ja all see that ANOTHER nail salon is going-in on 7th avenue, between Lincoln and Berkeley, on the 2nd floor of the building that houses the vanity project Dolly Layla? (or is it Layla Dolly?) This appears to be in addition to the one that's supposed to go-into the old Trade Winds storefront, right across the street.
  • i did see that prezt. they put up the sign last weekend and then they covered it up so i guess they can have a big unveiling.

the one next to santa fe where trade winds was is called voluspa. there is a line of candles and beauty products by this name. the candles are really good, but not sure if it's related to this new place.

i thought that place was going to be a hair salon or spa, but maybe not. voluspa does make beauty products as well, so i'm unclear so far on what that place is actually going to be.
