Extreme Towing Scam
My car was towed by Extreme Towing located in Redhook on Coffey St. When I went to retrieve it they tried to cover the fact that they had broken into the car and stolen my stuff saying the car had been left running with the window open. My wallet and other valuables was missing and they used my credit cards at local Exxon stations. I suspect they do this a lot. Anyone who knows of similar mischief by this outfit please let me know as I would like to gather more evidence against them and bring them to justice.

Do you have any proof of this?
Police report?
Fingerprints?
You never said why your car was towed.
Main point, supply more info before accusing like that. -
really, what makes you sure it was them? anyone could have broken into your car before it was towed. and why would you leave your wallet in your car?
-
I am filing a police report. The cop that came to the tow place did not want to get involved and said I would have to see them in court. I called the cop because I was in fear for what they might do to me as they got very agitated when I told them I was calling the cops for finger prints. I know how that sounds but if you go in that place you will know what I am talking about. It will be obvious if you have any street smarts at all.
If you had parked your car in front of your ground floor apartment and had been robbed and the guy at the tow company told you he found your car with the window open and the engine running what would you say? You would know the guy was lying and that he was trying to cover up what he knew. So I had a second set of keys in there, my wallet and other stuff. It was not visible to anyone walking by as it was in the glove compartment. The car was parked 20 feet from my front door.
The car was parked at 8:45pm . A neighbor who had recently moved in used that parking space and called the cops about a half hour after I parked. He was outside with my car waiting for the cops for a half hour. (He didn't realize I was his neighbor and has offered to pay for the tow and the ticket.) The car was towed a half our later so now it's 10:15pm. My credit cards were charged 3 times 2 hours later at an Exxon station. So they filled up 3 cars in a hurry. We will have to wait for the investigation to see if the Exxon cameras caught the guys filling up.
At this point it is clear to me that X-treme Towing used a shim to open my car and that they are good at what they do. They got good from practice and are likely to do this when the opportunity presents itself. My interest is to find out if anyone else had a similar experience with this outfit and get them busted. I don't care about the crap they took. I do care that they could come after me if they realize I am a threat to their small time criminal enterprise. -
You watch too much TV. What are we talking here? 100, 150 bucks. It would be absurd for the NYPD to start an investigation with bells and whistles over this. Presuming you've informed your credit card co. that you didn't use the cards it is up to them to press charges not you and since you don't care to pursue the other stuff they took what are you getting all bothered about. Still can't figure out why someone would leave anything of value in a car especially a wallet (for hours). Unfortunately it is a New Yorkers prerogative to qualify a victims culpability and this is kind of high up there.
The real crime here is taking somebody's parking space. -
They stole about $1500 in cash and merchandise. Don't you get that this could be a snap shot of a crime spree? It's not about my $1500 but the breaking and entering and that these guys are s**m bags. You would call these guys to tow your car if you had a problem?
-
I get it... what you are saying is that it's as plain as the nose on Karl Malden's face that these guys are crooks.

Sooooo...ctbrooklyn which is it?
Extreme Towing on Coffey Street?
or
X'treme Body & Fender Inc at 24 Kosciuszko St ?
No doubt you lost your bag of hallucinogenics too.
Seriously who parks their car in a space that is so obviously somebody else's that it is towed, full of money, credit cards and "merchandise"?
At night?!? -
It's X'treme Body & Fender Inc at 24 Kosciuszko St but they are actually located at 24 Coffey St.
It wasn't obvious...I have parked in this space many times at it is available to the apartment tenants.
Thank god they didn't get my hallucinogenics! -
Good luck ct. I think it's kind of hopeless though.
-
well... the only thing CT might have going for him is his neighbor.
If the neighbor can vouch that the car was NOT broken into during the towing, then he's got something.
but leaving everything in your car AND parking in someone elses space?
Maybe you shouldnt even own a car at this point.
Also, proving you had $1500 worth in your car? What kind of car is it?
Do you have proof of the items being in the car? Do you have insurance?
I have a fully loaded infiniti g37s and the only thing worth 1500 on the car are the rims, which have security nuts on them. Even on my best day, I wouldnt have $1500 worth on merchandise IN the car.
Your story seems loopy but has a hint of possibility to it.
But why post here and not just get a lawyer and a cop?
