Tavern on Nostrand Closed??

  • Hi, I'm one of the new owners of Tavern. Just wanted to clear up a few things. We are in the process of changing the name to Crow Hill Bistro. Many of you have probably seen our new flag, and hopefully all our new signage will be in place shortly.

We try to make all our customers at home, but we don't turn the sound on the TV up at all unless a majority of our customers are interested in viewing something. We are sensitive to the fact that folks in the dining room may not be interested in sharing the viewing experience of people at the bar. Similarly, while we play music, we do try and keep the sounds at a reasonable level so that our customers and staff can hear themselves speak. Not to mention we have neighbors too :)!

If you are a customer and you have suggestions about things that may make your experience more pleasant, feel free to share them with us. We're always looking to improve. Thanks for coming in and supporting.
  • i HATE tvs in bars and such, and i must say that the one at ToN never bothered me. when sitting in the dining area, i forget it even exists, and when at the bar, it hasn't in my experience stopped people from talking to each other.
  • Subject: Loving the Crow Hill Bistro

I've been frequenting this place for a few weeks now and I must say that I love having the Crow Hill Bistro here in the neighborhood. The atmosphere is great and I've never been disappointed in the food. I'm not a huge fan of TVs in restaurants/bars but it is really great to have a place to watch the game (whether it be baseball, football, or basketball).

The only thing I've been giving them leeway on is the service. Although the staff is always accommodating, it is incredibly slow. Considering that the Crow Hill Bistro is a place that I'd like to go to regularly, I grit my teeth and just accept it. Hopefully, the management and staff don't rest on their laurels regarding this issue.

The bottom line is this - it is a vast improvement on the Tavern On Nostrand under the management of that other creepy dude.
  • The Crow Hill Bistro is a pretty nice once in a while place to eat. Foot is good, people are nice, though the service is slow. I feel like the chef is always asleep in the back and the waiter has to go back and poke him with a stick every once in a while.
  • I enjoyed the old management more, but hopefully this bistro will get better with time. Was he creepy? Maybe I didn't eat there enough to notice. :)
  • Subject: New name Crow hill Bistro

My Family loves this place, we are there so often that we are familiar with the staff. the service is quite slow but they are very fair and accommadating.
I would have to say yes the old owner was very very creepy.

I you were a woman between 16 and 60, David (owner) made some kind of inappropriate "flirtation" towards you more times than not.

Then, with the shady way he financially ran his business was a mess.

Perhaps, it's the actual day to day managers/staff who left you with a pleasant experience. Do any of them still work there?
