  • I'm excited for this -- hope to stop by on Friday.
  • the funny thing is that when I moved here only a few years ago there really was only Soda on vaderbilt and I only went to Washington and beyond for curried goat and rotis once every so often.

kinda nuts how many bars have opened.
  • I continue to be happily surprised at how many new business are opening on the Corwn Heights/PH border area even now during a downturn with 10+ percent unemployment.

I sincerely hope they all make it through the next year or two, which will likely not be much better.

Alcohol, cigarettes, gambling and credit cards usually INCREASE in a recession.

...or a bad neighborhood, take your pick.
  • anyone know what's going on at the old FB enterprises space on the corner of washington and prospect?

The windows are papered and the awning has come down.

it's the new location of that clothing/jewelry/gift store that was at prospect and vandy. chris creations? something like that? it looks nice inside.

Generally true except, as to this recession, gambling and credit cards are down.

How are Rent-a-Center and Check Cashing places doing? ...they are my other favorite stock picks for preying on folks who are "down and out and/or simply impatient".
  • Walked by there last night - place is looking nice...
  • I love all the new bars opening but why can't just one of them have a pool table? I can't stand Alibi or the people who play pool there and it's the only bar within easy walking distance with a table.

My game has seriously taken a dive since moving to this hood 3 years ago.

Oceans? (I know, I know -- park slope side of Flatbush)
  • I havent heard the best things about Oceans, at least enough to think it's probably not my scene. I'm not a big hall player I prefer a bar that happens to have a pool table in it. With all the challenges that entails. Aside from Alibi I usually have more fun playing in a bar.
  • Soda used to have one.

I heard they got rid of it because they had a lot of problems with fights and dealing centered around it.
  • Checked it out...no crowd, minimal atmosphere, nice bartender...one beer and gone...
  • I went tonight and enjoyed it. It's a minimalist atmosphere, small place, lots of wood (and fresh wood smell). There was a steady stream of people, the bartender was friendly, and the music was pretty cool. I think it'll do well. Anyone else been?
  • I went last night after work. I liked it a lot. Can't really say why, just good vibe, great bartender, and nice conversation with the other couple people at the bar. I will definitely be going back.

The Tip Top Bar has a pool table, you just have to ask them to open the room for you.
  • I really enjoyed it -- went Saturday night. Great music! Only problem I had was that I'm a beer-drinking girl and ended up getting free shots -- this was bad news for my Sunday. Fun time on Saturday night, though!!
  • My husband and I stopped in last night. The music was great, the bartender and other patrons were very friendly, and after we'd each had two beers, the next round was on the house! We also received two free shots each. I walked out a hell of a lot more hammered than I'd intended to be on a Wednesday night!
  • Tip Top doesn't have a pool table in either room. Stop Inn, further up Nostrand, does.
  • Do they have draft beer? If so what do they have?

They do, and a fine selection - it's not a bud/miller sort of place. I can't recall exactly, but I know they had Brooklyn and Blue Point and Six Point (all solid safeties in my book)
  • Ok, so I went when they first opened at the end of November, and then hadn't been back due to other obligations and whatnot.

Last night we bundled up and figured we'd check them out 6-8 weeks after their grand opening....and they were closed.

The sign said "we'll reopen after the holidays" ... any idea when these holidays end? We ended up walking down the Washington Commons and had a good time, but I loved the music at Minor Arcana and was looking forward to checking them out again...

The Tip Top does have a pool table. You just have to ask them to take you to it.
  • Walked past the storefront today and it has been recently painted white and there was a note on the gate for the Con Ed man. Anyone know what's up?
  • Just walked by - yeah, it's open, again.
  • yep - talked to the folks working on the bar last week and walked by earlier tonight - today is the grand re-opening! looks good, too, had a casual crowd of people sitting at the bar. might have to go on by later on and check it out...
  • Went tonight. Very relaxed, low-key place with a decent selection of taps. Not much of a crowd, though, but hopefully that will soon change.
  • Stopped by last night. It was packed! A bit of a younger crowd than the bars on Vanderbilt. Great music, good beers on tap, and free mini beef patties. Definitely will be back.
