bed bugs at pavillion? — Brooklynian

bed bugs at pavillion?

one of my board members told me that there's a giant bedbug problem at the pavillion--another reason not to go...

has anyone heard about this or is it a rumor?

  • It is not a rumor. I experienced it first hand during Julie and Julia whenever that was a few months ago. I was bit by an adult bed bug in the big theater. Luckily he did not come home with me, but I am not taking any chances and am staying far away from that place.
  • How do you know it was a bed bug?

That was during the summer... there are a lot of "bugs" that bite that time of year.

    Just curious.
  • Lived through bed bugs a few years ago. My reaction to the bites is pretty specific: red itchy skin raised 1/2" and about 4" diameter.
  • Oh that is gross. I am never going back to the Pavillion.
  • oh, I am freaking otu now, 2 of my kids went there this past tuesday to see a movie
  • I hope you are all correct about this before another business gets ruined by the Brooklynian...
  • Another business? Are you implying that businesses ahve closed due to posts on this board??
  • How about a little optimism? Although the Pavillion's management were uninterested in my ranting about bed bugs, perhaps if more people put up a stink about it, they will get exterminated and maybe renovated.
  • Subject: Bedbugs at Movie Theaters

Brooklyn Cable Channel 12 covered a major bedbug problem at the Sheepshead Bay UA Movie Theater about a month ago, where they were found in all but one of their 14 or 15 individual theaters. They would come out when the lights went out and customers were talking about them on camera, having heard about the infestation from people who were friends with workers at the theater. They apparently did a lot of spraying and cleaned it up, as I haven't heard anything since.
  • Tangent, but has anyone seen those commercials with the bedbug sniffing dogs? I think that's so cool...
  • Brooklynpotter, can you tell us more about how your friend knows about it? What is their source?
  • Recently, I've noticed busloads of children being taken to the Pavilion during the school week.
I wonder how many apartments or homes are being contaminated because of this.

Has anyone contacted the Board of Health?
  • This really bites! Scary what you can get just going to see a movie. ugh.

a woman on my coop board told me, and said it was all over the internet. that's all i know.

i didn't see it here, so i asked.
  • It sounds like nothing more than a rumour to me....

There's no doubt that the place is absolutely decaying and filthy, but infested? To be honest, this whole bed-bug thing seems to be the fear of the moment with cinemas. Until there some's some proper evidence, I'll continue to sit in the Pavilion's filthy oldness.
  • ^^^ have fun with that.

  • "Get buggered at the Pavillion!" should be their new slogan

Because of all the other great things that The Pavilion has going for it! Stuff like... uh... ummm...

    Nevermind.

    Nevermind.

    Location?

It's within reasonable walking distance from Crown Heights/Prospect Heights.

Sigh. I have movies I need to watch , pavilion people. Plz get your shit together.

Not saying it's not true that they have bedbugs but I googled it and all I found were posts from this site and one other link where someone claimed they had bedbugs. That's not exactly "all over the internet". Then again, maybe I missed some ohter hits
  • No idea if Pavillion has the dreaded bed bugs. I'm not a business owner, but I wonder what a business like a movie theater can do about the problem? It's not like every person who walks through the door can be screened for bed bugs. They could bring in an exterminator to treat the problem (which obviously they should do if they are infested), but then the next month someone could come in and infest again. That's what's infuriating about bed bugs and the way they travel. At this point, should all businesses have regular visits from the bed bug-sniffing dog to see if they have a problem? Annually? Monthly? Weekly?

Also, if Pavillion has a problem, how should it go about letting the public know it's resolved? It's a PR black eye either way. Personally, I'm staying away from Pavillion for the time being; but are any other theaters better/at less risk?
  • To avoid them, i usually go to the early show, when they are more then likely sleeping off the previous nights feast .

Because it's clearly conjecture right now. Let's face it, the rodent children running around Park Slope are more of a pest.

I like this person. I do not like bedbugs. I do not like movie theaters, either. Due to assholes who ruin the whole experience for everyone else due texting, screaming at the screen, getting up every five seconds to get nachos and yelling at their brood of hairless rats.
