Info please; FREE rides for women from Manhattan 2Brooklyn

Last year on the news there was a group of volunteers who started an organization to offer women free rides home from Manhattan to Brooklyn from midnight to 4am or so.

Does anyone have any info on the group, the name or number of the organizers? Please post the info here for everyone if you know.

With the crime spree here in the past few weeks, I'm really concerned and would like to get this info.
Thank you.

  • just to say that i would only use this in case of emergency/fear, not regular commuting or whathave you. if you fear for your life/ lose your wallet/ in a dangerous neighborhood/etc. You should self identify as female, transexual, gay, etc to utilize this service (not for cis straight men) they also have a safe walk program where someone will walk you home which is open to cis straight men.

on facebook there is also a link through a chase charity to give money to a group and right rides is an option so log on...
  • If you're a woman from Brooklyn who goes out of Friday night, gets totally plastered, and don't want to take the train home (or an expensive cab), then you can TOTALLY call Right Rides. They don't judge. They only operate during late night hours anyway, so you can't have them pick you up from your 9-5. But if you work late (bartend/strip/play gigs) then they will pick you up, no questions asked.

They are volunteers- they are regular gals just looking out for their fellow bitches. They rule.

  • Right Rides is awesome. I did a fundraiser for them last year and met a bunch of the volunteers and one of the founders, and they're great. They offer a pretty amazing service and I totally encourage people to use it and support them if you are able/interested.
  • This is a good time to say...

We really, really need volunteers at RightRides. We successfully get a lot of people home every weekend (our Fridays are up to 19 people taken home, and that's the slower night). But we struggle almost every week to get enough volunteers to match the calls we have coming in every Friday and Saturday. The price of success, I guess...

I have been volunteering with them for the past 3 years. I can vouch they are a good group of people actively protecting vulnerable women and queer people from violence.

If you like the group and want to support what they do, please consider giving up an occasional Friday or Saturday of your time to be a driver or a navigator. Whether you can volunteer monthly or once a year, we need you. It makes a difference for the people who are most vulnerable to assault in the city.

    To volunteer, email [email protected]
  • I know this is in Greenpoint, but I felt people might be interested in helping to keep this great service funded:
