Price of Pizza

How much should a plain slice of pizza cost? I just spent $6 for a plain slice and a slice with sausage. Seemed high to me but what do I know?

  • Where did you manage to get ripped off like that
  • For $5, Dom Demarco will let you just take a whiff of a slice of pizza he made with his own bare hands.....and make you wait two hours for it.
  • Depends on where to went. Popular places, say in the Difara range can cost you $5 a slice. If you went to a greasy corner joint with no hype then maybe it should have been two dollars less. Most slices are from $2-3 nowadays.... yes I read too much of Serious Eats 'Slice' blog.
  • wait $6 for both slices? seems fine to me then. i'd say between $2-$4 a slice.
  • A plain slice has traditionally always been approximately the same price as a subway token (or subway fare, since they eliminated tokens). That puts a standard slice at $2.25 for now.
  • At the pizza places near me , a small cheese pizza = 4 decent slices costs $5-$7 depending on if you add a topping.
  • the going rate for the regular places is between $2.25 (my local) to around $2.75 for a plain slice... toppings are more at least 50c i think. So, 2.75 + 2.75 + 0.50 = 6.00

So that seems within line of not crazy. Difara's is crazy...

    Long live Di Faro!

Grew up in the hood. remember when a slice was ,, 15 cents.
But when the old man is gone.. I will be on board with evaluating the TRUTH about what a slice is worth!
  • Clearly, I have to get out more.

  • i take the bus up fifth avenue and...

    1. luigis pizza 686 5th @22nd st
first lunch: "home-made sopressato" slice ($2.75 depending on server's mood) thin crust, nice sauce, sells out by 4pm

    2. little buddy biscuit, 635 5th @18th st
second lunch and sweet treat: chicken n' biscuit pot pie with a side of lemon bar, always friendly service

    3. eagle provisions 628 5th @18th st
meaty take-home treats: super-smoked pork chops or kielbasi, cheese pierogies... sometimes rude service at eagle, but i shouldn't be eating in there

    4. wait for bus and ponder the aaron's sign
"aaron's. if you're husband's not in the business"
  • I love this guy. He's trying to eat a slice at every place in NYC. So far he's been concentrating in Harlem and UWS
