blackberry reception/dropped calls in the slope?

edited November -1 in Park Slope
i just switched from a regular phone to a blackberry. and now, not only do i have to deal with the horror self-loathing that attends blackberry ownership, but also a gazillion dropped calls.

i've been with verizon for a long time and used it all over the slope and in many other places as well and never had a problem like this. is there some special blackberry curse? does anyone else have this problem?

NB, i have the blackberry "tour," which is similar to the "curve" but i guess newer. i don't know if that makes a difference, but yeah.

  • First of all, there is no shame in admitting that you have a BB. Many of us have been there. It's not a problem until you realize that your relationship with your 'Berry is more perfect than your significant-other relationship.

Have you tried doing a *228 (assuming you're with Verizon) to update the roaming? That usually helps. There should not really be a problem with reception, specifically with any one phone.
  • If it uses 3G then you are not alone. Dropped calls in heavily populated areas with the 3G is quite common. The Apple store suggested I turn off 3G when making phone calls during peak times in NYC. Everyone and their mother has an iphone now so 3G get's a ton of traffic.
