Favorite Restaurant In or Around CH? — Brooklynian

Favorite Restaurant In or Around CH?

I've been living here since 2001 and have yet to find any fabulous sit-down restaurants...

Just wondering if I am missing any?? Also, any good delivery restaurants in the 11213 area?

Thanks, we actually found that place a few weeks ago and fell in love with the French Toast at Brunch! Definitely a nice place!! They also own the Bagel/Tea shop across the street - also good for baked goods and sweets!

News flash! A new sitdown place is opening on Nostrand bet. Park Place and Prospect Place. They're finishing the facade work now. I've been monitoring their progress for over a year. This should be way cool. Among the features the owners are putting in include central air, a fireplace, cathedral ceiling and a large courtyard in the back. The place is completely renovated with probably over 2000 sf of space plus a 40 by 40 backyard.

Two brothers have been working hard on this place. One of them told me they will probably open in stages with the front half opening first probably in July. Eventually he tells me they plan to have three different chefs cooking different types of food.

Time will tell, but this has been a long time coming.
  • Oops. That last post was by me. 8)
  • any idea what the different types of food might be? sounds great.

This could be good or it could be a disaster. It's difficult enough to get one menu right but three? If they have different sections like a bar, a lounge, and a restaurant, that could make sense but three different menus may be hard to pull off.

The first thought that popped into my head was of those super delis in manhattan with the chinese food, pasta, pizza, sushi, sandwiches, etc. It can work in that kind of take out environment but its not the same with a sit down place.

Anyway, I hope whatever they do works.

  • Turns out that the guys who are opening this restaurant went to college with me. I haven't seen them yet, but they are successful businessmen and hopefully will be able to pull this off. I think its their first foray into the restaurant business, so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

If I get any additional details I'll share.
  • Last post was me
  • so i tried to take the gf to tavern on nostrand this past wednesday evening, around 7:30 or so, and it was shuttered. is it not usually open then? i've never been before.
  • You might want to call them...I posted the number above...it seems strange that they would be closed then. I know that they do not open till 11am on the weekends...but 7:30 seems strange!

According to a friend they had closed for a few days, either because their chef quit or because they needed to do some cleaning. ?!?

Looks like they're looking for a new chef as well as some line cooks. Major turnover in the kitchen staff! This add was posted the same day that the person above found the place shuttered:

Great detective work. I noticed the Bagels and High Tea also closed on Saturday.
  • Has anyone ever seen the other restaurant around the corner open? Owned by the same guy, next to the spa.

Are you referring to Tavern's sister eatery across the street (Bagels & High Tea)? That has been closed for renovations for a few days. Tavern was open on Wednesday night. I walked by it and the crowd seemed lively inside.

This may be for the sister, Bagels & High Tea. A few months back they got rid of the chef there and the chef at Tavern was doing double duty.

That's going to be a whole foods type place. They are going to by the 99 cent store in between and expand on it. They also bought the upstairs and are turning it into a catering hall.

Never mind-- I went to Tavern on Nostrand for brunch with a friend today and we met the owner, who told us about of his ventures... and we saw this location. That man has vision! And, Tavern was so, so, so great.

sadly he has decided to close down the boutique (on the other side of the day spa) after less than 2 months and no advertising. It could have been a really cute place.
  • We ate at “Tavern” last night...could have been a little cooler...but the food was good...not as great as the last few times, but definitely good. We'll be back! Let's get out and support this owner...could have used a few more customers!!
