My dad used to go Christmas Eve to 5th Avenue and buy a real one and I still remember the smell and him cutting or should I say sawing it so it would fit properly in the living room. When we were much older they switched to an artificial one. -

Hello All, you can have a real tree and have it last and minimize the clean up too. The trick to it all is to cut a section off the bottom and make sure you have a tree stand that holds water. The water will keep the tree fresh and minimize all the shedding. Just make sure you keep water in the tree stand and you will notice after one week that if you grab one of the branches and gently pull toward you, the branches are moist and almost nothing falls off. The Puerto Rican tradition is to keep the tree up until January 6th which is the Festival of the Three Kings. If you follow these directions your tree will stay as fresh as the day it was cut down. Almost forgot, the day you bring it home, unwrap it so that the branches can fall into place and keep it in a bucket of water in the garage. It will be ready for decorating the next day. ENJOY!!!!!'

Good morning Guys,
Ant, glad to hear your feeling good. Good
news about Snowball too!
Terry, great Jib. I remember going with my father
to the ave. for the tree...always trying to make a
deal, lol.
Patsy, no bagel...................holy shit!
Judy, thanks for the Christmas countdown, it keeps
everyone on their toes.
Jimmy, you make everyone look like their standing still, lol
Jeanette, pot roast sandwich for later please!
Goodnight Suzie, LOL -
Good morning Danny, well said, cut the bottom and
WATER, WATER, WATER and then, don't forget to WATER -
The only other thing I remember someone telling me
about a real tree is, in addittion to making a fresh cut
across the bottom like Danny said, also don't shave the
sides to fit the stand, leave the bark and outer layers
so the water travels easier to the tree.
So, after many years of real....
I,m gonna go bring up my artificial, LOL -
Hey Paul, the WATER also cuts down the possibility of FIRE!!!!!

I remember getting our first articial tree as a kid. My dad brought it home from Germany. It was one of those aluminum trees that looked like it was made from Reynolds Wrap. We had a color wheel light behind it that changed from blue to red to green to yellow. The following year they must have hit the states because everyone had one.

A CHRISTMAS STORY BY OLD GOAT
(To keep all lawyers happy I will admit that much of this story is adapted from different author’s writings. I especially pay homage to Matthew, Mark Luke & John who gave us the original.)
Little Johnny came to his father in early December and said ”Daddy, some of the boys in my class said Santa is make believe and a fake!” I told them that I would ask you and then I would know the truth. Well Daddy, what is the truth.
Son, first let me ask you if you enjoy giving gifts to people at Christmas time. Well yes Johnny said, I like the look in their eyes and the happiness in their face when they open them. I know I made someone happy. Son, the beginning of the Christmas story started in a stable over 2000 years ago. The baby Jesus was born and people came from far & wide to pay homage to him. Three kings came and brought gifts of Gold and precious fragrances . Gift giving started way back then. Some time later people began giving gifts to each other to show their love and gratitude to others. In different countries the one in charge of the gift giving was called different names. There was St. Nicholas, Father Christmas and many others including Santa Claus. Now Mommy & Daddy know that Santa has an awfully big task to get all the presents that people want all in one night, Christmas eve. So Mommies & Daddies all over the world pitch in and buy gifts and become Santa’s helpers.
It is easy to say, like your friends, no, there is no Santa. But the spirit of Christmas has prevailed for over those 2000 years since Jesus was born. I for one am not going to take the chance of saying that spirit does not exist because I want to wake up on Christmas morning and find many of the gifts I hoped for! :santa: -
Hi all,

How is the florida weather did it get cold like they said???? I miss the warm weather and my family.... -
Hi Terry, I am glad you liked the story. It has been running around in my head for a couple of weeks and I figured I better sit down and write it out.
It did turn quite cold by our standards here. A couple of mornings in the 40's. It has warmed up some now but they are predicting heavy rain storms tomorrow (Wednesday) night. --Warren, Old Goat :santa: -

they said oh we are out back smoking a cigar in this warm weather lol (mean people they are LOL)
I copied the story and keeping it ...Thanks -
Hi...
Terry it is 77 right now and a beautiful day.
Having said that, seeing Jim's picture of the snow, and
what reminds me of my backyard in NJ - I feel sad.
Guess we can't have it all.
It is very bittersweet preparing for Christmas - and it will
be the first time in 57 years I won't be with my sister.
Please keep me in your thoughts/prayers tonight - I am running
a program for the cathedral - a support group for divorced and
recently-separated people - to help them get through the holidays..
'Finding New Hope during the Holiday Season"
Hope people show up -- any divorcees in the area - WELCOME!
I'll pay you to attend
. -
Since there are many of us divorcees on this blog and beyond -
wanted to share the closing blessing that Sr. Christa and I
made up (part of it plagiarized from Marianne Williamson).
At the end of the session I will have them make up
Christmas ornaments (bought blank ones in Michael's) - and they
will make up a new tradition, write it on ornament (or put inside)
and Sr. C will bless them in a basket.
This is the closing prayer - I think it is so appropriate. And even though I am divorced 13+ years, it
still made me cry.
I AM BLESSING YOU FROM AFAR:
Here it goes...
Dear God,
We ask you to bless your family before you.
Include in Your mercy and compassion, these your children
May the golden cord that bound their marriages
Be not violently severed, but carefully and peacefully
laid aside as they seek forgiveness and meaning for
all that has happened.
May these, your beloved children, remember that the
love of their unions was important, and honor it always.
Their experiences together were the lessons of lives lived,
searching for love. The love they gave and the love they
received was real and will be with them always.
The rest, all that was painful, they wish to give to you tonight, that
You might heal their hearts and give rest to their souls.
We place both the past and future in your hands, Oh God!
We place before you all our fears, and most important,
our ornaments, that hold our new traditions.
We ask you to bless them with your promise of hope and new life!
Amen!
.
take care everyone - catch up with you soon
Love and God Bless

HI WARREN
TWO THINGS ABOUT CHRISTMAS ON 12TH ST
THAT I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER:
THE CHRISTMAS LIGHTS ON 5TH AVE
AND SELLING CHRISTMAS TREES ON THE CORNER
OF 12ST & 5TH AVE.
WHEN I WAS A KID I ALWAYS USED TO HANG AROUND AND OFFER TO
CARRY THE TREES THE PEOPLE'S CARS OR THEIR HOMES.
THE GUYS USED TO YELL AT US BUT AFTER A WHILE
IT GOT SO BUSY THEY WOULD LOOK FOR US TO HELP
OUT AND GIVE US A COUPLE OF BUCKS.
THAT WAS REAL CHRISTMAS.
STAY WARM AND WELL
Howdy, Stranger!
