Terry it is 77 right now and a beautiful day.

Having said that, seeing Jim's picture of the snow, and
what reminds me of my backyard in NJ - I feel sad.
Guess we can't have it all.

It is very bittersweet preparing for Christmas - and it will
be the first time in 57 years I won't be with my sister.

Please keep me in your thoughts/prayers tonight - I am running
a program for the cathedral - a support group for divorced and
recently-separated people - to help them get through the holidays..
'Finding New Hope during the Holiday Season"

Hope people show up -- any divorcees in the area - WELCOME!
I'll pay you to attend

    .
you will do fine and u will be helping alot of people. You Go Girl!!!!

TWO THINGS ABOUT CHRISTMAS ON 12TH ST
    THAT I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER:

THE CHRISTMAS LIGHTS ON 5TH AVE
AND SELLING CHRISTMAS TREES ON THE CORNER
    OF 12ST & 5TH AVE.

WHEN I WAS A KID I ALWAYS USED TO HANG AROUND AND OFFER TO
CARRY THE TREES THE PEOPLE'S CARS OR THEIR HOMES.
THE GUYS USED TO YELL AT US BUT AFTER A WHILE
IT GOT SO BUSY THEY WOULD LOOK FOR US TO HELP
OUT AND GIVE US A COUPLE OF BUCKS.

    THAT WAS REAL CHRISTMAS.

    STAY WARM AND WELL
You were probably one of those older cute boys that helped my Dad....LOL
    Did u make good tips....
  • Hi Guys:

I'm back to work. Hope you all had a wonderful thanksgiving. My 96 yr. old Aunt is doing very well. She was a little "ornery" this year complaining about the turkey and desserts but, hey, she's 96 and entitled.

I've been reading the Christmas memories and I remember we used to get our tree on 5th Ave. on Christmas Eve because they went down in price. My mom had 3 kids with no help so we couldn't afford much. I remember our tree was always a Charlie Brown tree. I think we would pay 50 or 75 cents. We tried to fill it up with tinsel but it still looked sad. Anyway, I guess it was better than having no tree at all. But when you're a kid those things mean a lot.

One more thing Jim. Besides the lights & Christmas Trees, there was a record shop on 5th Ave just a couple of doors in from 12th Street. Same side as Michaels Furniture. He had an amplifier pointed out on to the avenue and used to play Christmas records all through the evening. "How much is that doggie in the window," Alvin & the Chipmunks, I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus underneath The Christmas Tree last night." Great memories. More later :santa:

    THAT WAS REAL CHRISTMAS.

    STAY WARM AND WELL

  • Hi guys....had a busy day today, I was running errands and trying to finish up putting away the empty boxes from decorating. Thank God this comes once a year......it's a lot of work.....lol
  • Franny, I think that what you're doing is great. So many people need to know that people do make it through tough times. By talking to someone who's been through it will help them so much. Good luck tonight.
