Last week after trying to go to Buttermilk Channel and being told there was a 2 hour wait (and the same for Prime Meats and Frankies), we ended up at The Good Fork in Red Hook, and, man, was I happy! That place rocks! Awesome crab cakes, delicious dumplings, loved the brussel sprout salad, hubby enjoyed his duck and my pork tenderloin was good.

They make a darn good vodka gimlet also. I know it's not in Park Slope, but, for people who haven't been there, you need to check it out.

  • I've only been once and was a little disappointed after all the good things I heard. However, they did make a superb French 75. Maybe they were having an off night the night I went, so I definitely plan to give them another try at some point.
  • that is how I feel about Buttermilk Channel, we finally got in this Saturday and it was ok, maybe my expectations were high after hearing all the raves. The food was good, but, to me, not an hour or two waiting good and I really liked the food at Good Fork better.

    By the way, what is a French 75?

    A French 75 is a gin-based cocktail named after a piece of World War I artillery. It contains gin, lemon, simple syrup, and champagne. Nearer by, Weather Up makes an excellent version as well, but I have to say that the French 75 at The Good Fork was my favorite part of my meal, a definite standout.

  • I went to a party catered by The Good Fork; the food was exceptional. The one time we tried to go to the restaurant happened to be their vacation. Thanks for the reminder. And perhaps a French 75 . . .

    Did you try the dumplings or the crabcakes when you went?
