BURGLARIES in THE SLOPE!
We're on 3rd st between 7th and 6th and the two top apartments in our brownstone were burgled yesterday in the AFTERNOON.
The came in through the fire escape (please everyone LOCK YOUR WINDOWS even if you think someone couldn't reach them!) and then left through the roof.
They wore gloves so there were no prints and clearly knew exactly what they were doing.
Took a bunch of laptops, WII, ipods, cameras etc.
Please be forewarned and everyone kindly look out for your neighbors!

turns out there was also one on 4th street.

Holiday weekend. Bad people tracking the daily habits of people and waiting for the moment to invade. Very upsetting.
-
There have been numerous burglary attempts on 10th Street, between 6th and 7th Avenue, by burglars attempting to get inside via roof hatches. Make sure those are secure as well.

Sounds like an insider job. Blame your nannies and housekeepers.

as if we had either.

Not likely. Nannies and housekeepers have keys. They could just go in and out from the front (or back) door. Also, its too risky for them. They could never steal enough to justify loosing the income if they were discovered. -
Exactly; you'd never suspect them. Fire, fire, fire.

That's true... housekeepers make a bundle. 5K in electronics and 5K in jewelry is nothing compared to $40/month busting your ass. -
They were stealin', when they should have been buyin'

Am in Prospect Heights here and there were two on our block on Thanksgiving day - on St Marks between Vanderbilt and Carlton. The cops got a very clear hand print from the perpetrator and they were hopeful that it would lead to an arrest - here's hoping. If your stuff has been stolen, do a daily search for it on craigslist. A good friend of mine got her bike back that way after it had been stolen.

Did she have to buy it back?

The CL listing thing has excellent police sting / thief bust / property recovery satisfaction possibilities written all over it.
Attention petty thieves out there:
Feel free to put all of your newly acquired wares up on eBay, CraigsList etc.
Thx -
Just want to point out that if entry/and or exit is made through yards and roofs you should be looking at your neighbors. Unless you live on a block that affords street access to the fire escapes they are gaining access through sombody's home.
-
Yeah - I hear that. However, several buildings on the street have fire escapes on the street. Also, most of the buildings along this block are connected - the roofs touch each other or have only a tiny space between them. There are only 3 of us in the building and I know it's not any of us - we've all lived here too long. Someone could be coming in through someone's house on the block (which is long) or getting up on the roof through several of the fire escapes on the street. Frustrating.

That really, really sucks, and I'm so sorry.
Howdy, Stranger!
