...that could happen very soon. PM me if you are serious.
  • Wait, we can include this bar in the midnight ride rotation again. Yay! How did I miss this?

Hey ya'll, this is Sam the manager over at Prospect Pond. Just wanted to jump on here and give a friendly hello to everybody. Sorry to you guys who loved Manhattans and the grime, but it was just not the right bar for the neighborhood. Now we really want to be a bar where everybody feels welcome. Yes we have two tv's but i only put sports on one of them. The other I try to keep on bad movies. If I can manage it I want to start doing bad movie nights and maybe get a projection screen TV. Also, Im just started looking for some bands to play in here. Don't worry neighbors we'll keep the back door closed (that was an oversight). And if need be we'll sound proof the back door too!
Really, I want this to be a come as you are bar. I have no basement, so until i can afford some major remodeling there will be only one tap, but it will remain PBR and stay 3$ a pint, 10$ for a pitcher. As for the bars direction that has yet to really be determined. Cheep, friendly, and clean is my business model. This is first bar i've managed so we'll see where it goes. Getting a shipment of 151 in today though, and gonna start doing lots of flaming drinks, so stop by for that tonight if you wish. And always please feel free to tell me what you think.

    Respectfully

    SAM

PS: We are looking for Musicians and performing artists right now who want exposure of you know anyone who is interested let them know they are free to e-mail me: <rockclimbersam>

    Cheers! :)
  • flaming doctor peppers right here in my own neighborhood!
  • Wow, a bar manager who not only avoids excluding others via buzzer, but who also posts a friendly message on a neighborhood board and invites input from the community. Sounds like a straightforward business move that other bar owners have missed.

Ugh. You can have him and his flaming shots all to yourself. After all, it's the "right bar for the neighborhood."

I always appreciate when local business owners come on these boards and speak as themselves rather than trying to masquerade as a patron and shill. So while I admit there are a lot of red flags, I'm going to reserve judgment until I go check it out myself. It can't be worse than the horrendous bar in Bay Ridge that I got dragged to last night.

Been there twice- It's as boring as a nursing home.

I think I would have rather been in a nursing home than that bar I was at last night. Bay Ridge is so lame.
  • Ha! At least it sounds entertaining from a people-watching perspective!

That's for posting Sam, I second that it is always great when a owner comes in and welcomes the nabe and this message board. Much luck to you :D

Anyone know the phone number of this fine establishment?
Hey there, no worries anymore - just got finished sound proofing the back door. Hopefully this is the end of the noise problems. Any more feel free to let us know.

Wow, that's great. Previous incarnations of bars in that space used to have the door open all the time. Really nice to see the new place being so considerate. Thanks, Sam!
  • Subject: Different but not better.. yet

I am apparrently in the minority, but I thought Mahattans was the best bar in Brooklyn. My band used to play shows up at Siberia. The real - almost lawless - New York dive experience was a trip, and my friends were thrilled to find something other than another cookie cutter bar. I thought the newspaper was hilarious and I felt all cool being in the know. Maybe that's just me, I like quirky and original; could care less if the doorknobs are polished. The place was often packed.
I'm shocked and disgusted to hear rumors of racial discrimination. If that's true, well, good riddance.

In any case, Sam is running this new place with some great spirit. It's a warm atmosphere with good people. Meet me there for a drink!
  • I agree that this place is great -- Sam is super friendly and every time we go we end up talking to him as much as the friends we're there with. Drinks are cheap and the place is really chill. I really enjoy my time there every time we go.
  • I agree that Sam and the other staff at Prospect Pond are friendly and welcoming. Again, a signfiicant improvement over the previous place. Like the others posting above, I always enjoy myself when I go there.
  • All the staff are nice and the happy hours are friendly to your wallet. They have made a real effort to clean up.
  • ...is about to become "The Three Eves" apparently... if I understood correctly from one of the Eves looking for signatures from local residents this afternoon, in support of a license application.

  • Correct, Eves 3. Each of them was present at the CB 8 Economic Development Committee meeting at the Center for Nursing and Rehab (Classon bet. Park place and Prospect Plasce.) They're applying for a liquor permit. All black females who've retired from their respective jobs and have known each other for 30 years.

Some like they plan some fun stuff for their early retirement.

  • Anyone have any current information on this place. Seems like its been closed for at least a week running...

  • Still haven't noticed them being open yet, but I did spy a new awning up for "Eves". Hopefully they'll be up an running soon. Anyone know more?

  • When I looked in over the weekend, they were still in the carpentry stage of renovation.
