Why did Fishers Pioneer stop carrying cat food l — Brooklynian

Why did Fishers Pioneer stop carrying cat food l

WHY did Fisher's and Pioneer BOTH stop carrying cat food and litter? They used to have several brands, now they only carry one (crappy) brand, if we're lucky. It's the same crappy stuff they carry at bodegas.

Where can I buy decent cat food and litter around Franklin Ave.? Do we really need to walk over to Washington or Nostrand or buy in Manhattan and shlep it on the train?

Anyone know why Fisher's & Pioneer stopped carrying this stuff?

  • acme pet food (on vanderbilt) will deliver to you for free. their prices are a tad higher than the grocery (but not much), but i find the delivery of litter well worth it.
  • Fisher's and Pioneer are together -- so if one stops the other will too. That said, I could have sworn Fisher's had a lot in the first aisle -- if you want something different, just tell Tony Fisher. He will order things you want/need as long as you actually come in and buy it. Washington isn't that far, either -- try Key Foods on Washington and St. John's, which is really close to Fisher's (2 blocks)
  • Economically it is not profitable to dedicate shelf space to animal food and litter. I manage buildings in Soho and Union Square with delis at close to $300 a sq. ft..They haven't carried 9 lives or Johnny Cat in years. Things like tin foil and Morton salt can't be found either. Fancy sea salt, yes.
  • I second Acme. Wide varieties of food and litters, prices a tad higher than some other places I've been to but the delivery is prompt and convenient.
  • Another option I've found, (not Brooklyn-based though) is that you can "subscribe" to items at Amazon.com where you get a % off discount for subscribing and they automatically ship out the items every 2 weeks or every month depending on what you pick and automatically bill your credit card. It's delivered quickly and you can really get anything you need.
  • they carry many different cat litters (world's best, feline pine, clay, others) at Associated on Franklin Ave. btwn carroll and crown.

    not sure about food selection.

we get delivery from Whiskers in manhattan. 1800whiskers.com . they deliver free to brooklyn if you order $80 or more, which is easy to do if you order a whole lot of food and litter at once and store it. they carry everything up our fourth-floor walkup.
