best place to meet singles in PH?
the PS board has a thread re: where to meet singles (well, it's more specific than that, but who cares?)
while we've had many threads on this topic in the past, I figured it is time to start fresh, what with the changing face of Prospect Heights and all.
so! what's the best place to meet single folks in PH? anyone out there actually met someone in the nabe and had/have a relationship with them beyond casual shagging?
of course, it could just be that all the singles are in PS but I find that absurdly difficult to believe.

i have had many meaningful relationships with the guys on st.john's who offer me drugs to go up stairs with them... especially when approached in groups of five or more.
and come on, alafairnadia, what was wrong with that potato chip throwing guy at ripple?
i would vote house and roof parties.
where is the poll?
i thought all the singles were in PH and all the preggers were in PS. -
yeah. I was approached on the street this afternoon by a very nicely dressed man with a really nice smile. he wanted some money, though. another fine opportunity ... lost!
anyway, it was a vaguely serious question - I just strongly suspect the answer is "there is no good place in PH to meet a single person for anything other than a one night stand" or some variation on that theme. -
the most effective way of making friends is through groups
neighbor gropus
pet owner groups
music groups
art design groups
freelancer groups
religious groups
photographer groups
pool playing groups
the inclusion of being part of a group vets you
so you have a built 'in' with everybody -

Are you kidding me? Everybody already knows each other in this neighborhood. Besides, once you join the merry band of PH DH posters, it's all sister and brotherhood. -

Yeah, can you imagine the gossip? Ugh, makes me shudder.

importing dates from other cities often proves successful. but that's not PH... & then we get back into the "transplant" topic and .. you know..
-
Nooooooooo! Not the transplant topic!

i've met people at the gym. but this is not a good idea if you are committed to continuing to frequent said gym. it can get kinda gross if/when the relationship doesn't perpetuate. and if you have several such exes at the same gym, it is hard to negotiate a workout around their various schedules. so, when the critical density is exceeded, the only option is to switch gyms. and, then, if you've done this before at other gyms....you get the logistical nightmare of this scenario...maybe tmi...but i agree that it does seem more difficult to meet people in p.h., for some reason. (at least for THIS queer woman...i've always been under the impression that the 20-30 y.o. straight folk had an easier time in these parts)

The gym should NEVER be a place to meet potential dates/mates. Go there to get in shape and leave it at that. It is pretty easy for straight singles to meat around here, though, but I can't speak for the other lifestyles.

First Saturday at the Museum .. for shizzle.

i am loving the MEAT typo.. but yeah, NOT the gym. please, no! and let's also put any time before noon off limits. -

every gym I've been to has been a MEAT market. other than my pilates studio. for obvious reasons. this is why I only attend pilates these days and have quit all gym memberships. cause ... me in lycra and sweaty is way less attractive than me in cute trousers and a blouse ... all sweaty. was today gross or what? -
shoot, guys. i honestly didn't mean to write "meat," but i guess it's appropriate. funny.

Nothing better than a girl that looks good after rolling out of bed and putting on sweats... add a hat with a ponytail pulled through the little space where you adjust the size... uh huh.
Women always underestimate their natural cuteness. -
this is true. morning pretty is the gold standard.
-
Subject: double back
morning pretty is also a gold standard for men. there's nothing like mussed up hair and that sleepy eye look!
as for the transplant topic, i personally wish people would just strike up conversation more often! as a new single PH'er i'm open to a little random chat with neighborhood peeps, but so far no dice. i did, however, fall in that hole (that they've since filled) on Vanderbilt and Park Pl a couple weeks ago and i was touched that a few passing people jumped to my aid!
guess the falling story wasn't really a great intro as a new single PH'er, huh? oh well...
 -
If I were single and actively looking (or even just actively looking) I'd just start conversations wherever. Sepia's always a pretty friendly spot, just ask any of the regulars (which would include myself). Probably once a month I'm out front there having a smoke and end up chatting with someone who is new to the nabe.
Brooklyn Art Museum, absolutely. Memberships are cheap and worth every penny.
Dog walking. Big park on the weekends, Mt. Prospect Park on weekday mornings. Borrow a dog if you have to. Disclaimer: while morning pretty is indeed the gold standard, and in the summertime you definitely get some of that (sweats, hat? check), the conversation is often a bit below par as the coffee hasn't quite circulated yet..
