The meeting was pretty much a follow-up of the much bigger meeting last month, where the areas to be designated as landmarked were revealed by the Landmark Preservation Commission. A group of concerned residents from Pacific Street were present to express their displeasure at being in the designated area. Much talk ensued about the process to make repairs once a building is landmarked and of the up-coming meeting on September 12 when the area will be voted on by the LPC. For more information on the hearing, check out www.nyc.gov and go to the Landmarks site from there.
The principal from the Hebron School was also present to discuss some of the plans afoot for this beautiful old school on NY Ave and Park Place. Nothing specific yet to report. -
It was said on Brownstoner.com that the voting will take place after the LPC meeting @ 1 Centre St. on 9/26. Is this true? In your opinion, do you think the landmark status will come to fruition?

The date for the meeting given at the May meeting was 9-12-06. The calendar on the LPC website has not been updated yet, so we'll need to keep checking the website to confirm when it is on the agenda.
As to whether it will be approved, given that the staff has recommended it, the commission typically supports the staff recommendations. But this is NYC so anything is possible. Beyond the LPC vote, the area must also be approved by the City Council. If you have thoughts on the designation I'd encourage you to come to the meeting in Sept. whenever it is. -
Thanks for the info. I'll get my eyes open.

I just got the following email from Kate Daly at the LPC:
The Commission plans to hold a public hearing on the proposed Crown Heights North Historic District on September 12, 2006. Letters will be mailed to all property owners within the proposed district several weeks before the hearing. Please feel free to contact me with any other questions you may have.
Looks like Brownstoner should get it's facts straight
