now con ed, keyspan and marshalls owned me(more updates)

grr over a few months ago i open acounts with them. took them many months to get me some damn electricity and give me meters.

only now they send me new bills for deposits for acounts i already open and paid for. but on the new acount they misspelled my name on all the new acounts each with a diffrent last name same first name grrrrrrrrrrrr.

Comments

  • apparently now i have 12 apartments :( that i have to pay. someone really screw up on this!

when i brought this place it had 6 meters spots for each apartment and 1 for hallway and basement. so i pay all the deposits and monthly estimates. since the place didnt have meters at all. the old owner owe tons of money. con ed took away the meters.

i waited months and months for them to install new meters. and they finally did last week and still working on the electric connections in my building.

anyway i called them today cause i got new bills for deposits for building that i already made payments and deposits for!

the con ed people on the phone are clueless. they told me i still have to pay even for the phatom apartments. I'm like i dont have freaking 13 meters nor 12 apartments. they were like on my computer it says you have 13 meters. i'm like those old meters got taken away. they were like computers dont lie etc.. and i'm like yeah do you want me to send you the freaking title and deed to say its only 6 apartments. anyway they basicly pass the buck to a diffrent division. of course they are close during the night time.

blah does anyone know where energy services is located at. i'm going to go in person!

Maybe you could pass this cost onto the consumer. Explain to your tenants that they're now renting two apartments and their rent just doubled.

i Just try to called con edison sub devision energy services. who handles the meters and so on. where con edison pass the buck. their lines are busy. and they arent 24/7. only got one locale line :(. and con ed doesnt even know if they got a office in brooklyn. blah would be so much easier to deal with in person than phones.
  • 2 hrs of calling their(energy services) lines are still busy :(.
  • finally got through. talk to operator and they instead of helping me, transfer me to the guy whos in charge of my acount. same guy i been trying to get hold of for past few months that never called me back.

I wasnt supprise when i got his answer machine. he never calls back. i'm gonna keep calling them everday till this is resovled.
  • just got off the phone with con ed, since other sub division isnt a help.

after half an hour trying to convince them, that i have a problem. they were like okay we'll send someone over to see whats the problem with the extra meters. they are suppose to call me before next tuesday. lets see if these guys come through!
  • yay! i left the message for the guy who is in charge of my acount. of course i learn this time put the messages as urgert! in the past i would just send the messages are normal.

he got back to me and told me, they'll most likely fix that problem on monday. cause today is already friday etc....

Are you going to change the topic of this thread to "CON EDISON RULZ" now, or will you wait to see what happens on Monday?

  • Yes, I had the same problem, my house was legally converted from a 3 family to a 2 family and Con Ed kept hasseling me about the third meter for, yes, about 2 years. The building was abandoned for many years and all the meters were stolen decades ago, but Con Ed insisted I was hoarding one. They threatened to take me to court etc. etc. Finally someone came, inspected my property and took my name off the no good egg-sucking chicken molesting meter stealing list.

yeah i think the old ones were stolen. and they still claim i have em :p. i hope when they come and see there is no extra meters and give me my money back.
  • related update. the marshal is coming again to get a "meter". he came last time and couldnt find a meter. so he is coming again to see if he can find it.

There is no meter for the gas company but he is welcome try to find it. grrrr this would be the 3rd time. i hope he'll stop this time.

  • they came to fix the billing problems today. they said i shouldnt have more problems with that. but i got owned by coned since last week from the flooding that was cause by them installing a new powerlines inside the house they had to drill through. basement flooded etc... they said they'll come back tomorrow or thursday to check how to fix the flooding that was done.

yet i got owned by the marshalls and keyspan in turn.

they came to get some gas meters. that was stolen or taken along time ago. we obviously dont have it. they came and took a look. i talk to the marashall. he said they'll probably be back to check again.

marshall came 3 times before. every time they cant find the meter.
  • Sadly, all the utility companies treat us like lepers rather than customers.
I had issues with the electric company and the Water Company.
When I got my house, I did not get a water bill for almost a year, nor even on the prior owner’s name, a year later I got a bill for a couple of thousands with penalties. I tried to negotiate a deal with them since a never got a bill but they would not hear of it.
The bills were supposedly accurate because they were an ‘actual’ readings of the meter – I couldn’t find one in the house and when I would bring this to their attention, they would sarcastically ask me if I knew what a meter look like. I could not get them to come to inspect their meter.

So after few years I was obligated to install a remote water reader for the meter, well it turns out there was no meter in this house. I was still being held responsible for the missing meter. I had to get a plumber and paid to have a meter installed. Once I had a meter I fought them to have a refund on the outrageously high bills I got for years. They agreed to monitor the usage of water for three-quarters to adjust my bill accordingly. After a year two years I finally got them to credit some money for the years I was over billed; by this time I could not get credit for all the time they over bill me because there was a “statute of limitations” on the time I could get some credit for.
Have I be the one owing them, they would have put a lien on my house, but because it is the company, they can rob me for some years because there is a ‘statute of limitations’ that protects them.

If you need something from the electric company, they want to charge you for everything, even to do a reading on Saturdays. They act like dictators, as such, they demand, they are always right, and we have no right to complaint or anything else.

I have a friend from Dominican Republic, and his family bought a generator to send to their relatives because they experience blackouts on a regular basis. I wish we could do the same thing so we would not have to do business with the utility companies here.
  • after they "fix" the water problem. its freaking flooding in the basment now:(. they put a hole through my basment wall to give my building electric. and it flooded before and it was suppose to be fix since like last week. well they have to come back again.
  • Fascinating reading. I mean it. Sometimes I think I want to buy a house, then your brutally honest posts bring me back down. Thank you. Good Luck. :)

just dont buy a shell that has fallen apart. other wise i think its pretty safe hehe.
  • been two weeks since i called them last to fix the water flooding problem. i call them back yesterday. they told me there was no notes of this. and today someone called me to let me know someone is going to check out the flooding problem.

god damn it. if they came past few weeks it was raining and they could see it was flooding and it was cause by them. the lady was like oh maybe its not our main box that is causing the flooding. I'm like it never flooded till you guys install the main box and water is coming from under the box.

lets hope these guys would show up and fix this time for real!

Nothing quite as comforting as watching water cascade into your basement past your electrical mains box - makes you want to stand there knee deep in water and wait to see what happens next...

FWIW I had a similar problem a couple of years back during a major rainstorm (their conduit in the street was full of water) - ConEd was pretty nonchalant about the whole thing... doot-de-doot...
  • they were suppose to fix it yesterday. they came and play with the outside and done nothing to the inside box. and still leaking. gonna call them again now :(.
  • well con ed came few weeks back and it was suppose to be fixed. i called today after it rained and said hey it wasnt fix. they check their notes and the person told me they thought there wasnt a leak to begin with. no wonder everytime they came they left again and said its fixed.

these idiots came when it was sunny and not raining off course there isnt a leaking problem. so today i was like why dont you send them over now or during a rainy day so you can see the leaking problem.
