Snow coming soon
Hey all,
I've lived in the neighborhood for almost fifteen years and once in a while I'll peak in here to see what newbies, and oldies have to say. I've hardly ever made a comment but I think I need to pick someone's brain regarding this.
The S train runs under my block, [Eastern Parkway] and every winter the landlords have their supers clean up the snow outside their respective buildings. But WHO should clean up the snow on top of the subway bridge? Usually there's only a small, skinny path where only one person can fit at a time. Who do I call...311? I have kids, and have to drive a stroller through that snow, and later ice that forms there. or is that something the buildings should try to get together and do.
I know this seems minor, but try to make the journey with a stroller in freezing weather and you'll see it's not
thanks so much for any input..

That should either be the MTA or the Sanitation Department. Call 311 once it snows and report that the area hasn't been cleaned. Continue reporting on a regular basis and ask your neighbors to do the same. Eventually, it will get cleaned.

Eh- not really. I live right next to that shuttle and they NEVER shovel the 10-20 feet on either side of the subway entrance. I asked the MTA people and they said that that's part of the Parks Dept (the community garden?), so yes- 311. I'll call if you call.
This is a serious problem though. One person falls and breaks their ass and the city's looking at a major law suit. -
I used to shovel the houses on both sides of where I lived and 1 house across the street where all the old ladies lived. Maaybe your husband can borrow a shovel and do it himself. With all the furious buckpassing going on, it just makes it easier to do it yourself and get some exercise and fresh air.

Well, no- not passing the buck. My husband and I work hard. We pay taxes. That money needs to go towards the maintenance of the streets I live on.
Yea, yea- exercise and fresh air...Getting up two hours early before work so I can shovel snow (or better yet, pay money for ice melter!) doesn't even sound remotely appealing on any level. It would just piss me off.
Howdy, Stranger!
