  • could be fun....
its located right near the police station and fire house, and many of the protesters might be "friends" with many of the officers.
  • i will bring my own chain

always good to be able to unlock yourself if you change your mind, and not be reliant on the organizers.

Yes, but only if you send it to 10 people and they all have to send it to 10 more people in 10 days or else they receive a bottle of Breck shampoo.
  • As usual, the protestors have poor timing: in the middle of a blizzard and a few days before one of the biggest holidays of the year, when many people will be out of town. It reminds me of how they routinely hold rallies on workdays or the time they held a press conference at the height of Hurricane Katrina and then wondered why they garnered no media attention.

I'm sure there will be more chains than people...

Now that this arena and the use of eminent domain are sure bets, it's more amusing than ever to see these folks make fools of themselves by employing purely sympbolic gestures. But at this stage, that's all they have left.
  • ...and to this poster, that might be more entertaining to watch than anything in the theaters, on TV or the 'net.

I'll make sure to take the camera if I go. ...it might be the only publicity they receive. I'm all for encouraging silly pointless gestures.
  • jack smack

    full of crack

    glad to see your back

you always seem to push this topic to the top

  • Subject: Confused?

Is Sunday the last day for Freddies?
  • no my dear child

    t'is only the prospect height

    holiday celebration called here as
    "hanging of the chains"
  • 'well we stopped by... and it is great to know that Freddy's is prepared!
  • somewhat related: gothamist maps reported an "all hands" at 479 dean street around 12:30pm. their "extra extra" is calling it a shooting. http://gothamist.com/2009/12/20/extra_extra_1465.php#comments

freddy's is 485 dean street. anyone know what happened?

I don't see it. Maybe they've revised it, but they now report a fire at that time and place.

...there seems to have been a shooting in the 1500 block of Dean, but that's way in CH.

http://gothamist.com/map/ (the map constantly updates itself, so it you look at it on Monday morning, the incident might not appear at all)
  • about halfway down on the right hand side:
    All Hands | 479 Dean St Brooklyn, NY | 12/20/2009 12:26 p.m.

    http://gothamist.com/map/

oh just realized there was a shooting on dean and an all hands on dean. my bad. stirring it up for no reason. probably no shooting at 479... just an incident of some kind.

    sorry!
  • karl was there and he saw

    a peculiar circumstance it was

in a building of a key plaintiff

a spontaneous basement fire there was

    at noon and half

as patrons readied their chains next door

    two hours past then

two badged men posturing of official condemnation

arrived demanding to enter the premise

they fled into the snow as news cameras followed them

    badges now hidden

    faces now buried in scarves

    leaving questions unanswered

    strange but true
  • Holy Coincidence Batman!

Crazyness! Plantiff as in a "Ratner AY community outreach" offices?

there are a few of them located right there.

    ...damn, this could get nuts.

...people might be willing to do more then civil disobedience to express their objection.

all of which is pointless, because it seems to be a done deal.
  • ratner is not a plaintiff

    and within the foot print

dark lord bruce does not live
  • http://www.flickr.com/photos/tracy_collins/4200695666/

indeed. Although purely a "coincidence" one supposes a fire could:

    1. Forward Ratner's argument that the properties are a blight, or
    2. Allow people who are about to get minimum amount of $ via eminent domain, to get perhaps more $ via insurance.
  • FYI: Forest City Ratner is the current owner of the building, and is David Sheets' latest landlord. David Sheets is a plaintiff in at least one lawsuit:

  • Precarious indeed! Speaking out against Forest City Ratner when he's your landlord, and your merely a tenant.

Based on Karl's report, it sounds like the City Marshall or perhaps Dept of Buildings (?) planned to serve papers today ...they'll be back.

When is the chaining supposed to occur?
How many people are expected to participate?
  • wow, i was unable to reserve my shackle spot, as if i might. It' s over, never was what many would like to think.
  • not exactly sure what you're saying, BrookSignal, but the event today at Freddy's was to only install the chain in the event that protesters would want/need to handcuff themselves to the bar to prevent eviction/condemnation/demolition at some point in the future. it was clearly a photo-op today, but also prep for the future.

    yes

    some concerns intelligent

    yet some concerns less engaging

    yes

    yet those vexed most

to the head of the board this topic brings

    yes

    karl thanks, sweet sweet not-of-why

    for his grand gestures

you have made this topic a star so brilliant

    please post more
  • where went little jackie krohn?

    is he sitting all alone?
  • I wasn't sitting alone, but based on the photos that I saw on nolandgrab.org, it sure looks like those at Freddy's were. At most, it seemed like 20 people showed up. What happened to the 5000 people that Daniel Goldstein loves to rant and rave about? Also, Mr. Goldstein has always claimed this to be a multiracial effort. Why, then (as usual), are nearly all of those in the photos white?

[sounds of the marshal knocking on the door]

Permit me to conclude with the silly writing style of my hero:

    ha ha ha

    it wont be long

soon your homes will be legally seized

    go nets
  • did danny claim 5000?

we should have bought more plates

yes, smart wee jackie krohner you are

church does keep you busy on sundays

    from what i hear

but we all waited for your timely comments

so, now we sing of jacky kroh

sitting in his crown heights home

    preaching of arena-skies

putting in his thumb, oh fie

putting in, oh fie... his thumb

putting out, how strange... a poem

    thanks for patronizing this topic

we await your rounds of wisdom
  • now where went captain planet

    he loves this topic so
  • would the spirit of freddy's be ruined if they were to find another space? instead of installing chains, maybe there is a more practical solution.
