Subject: Area Development
Lets be realistic here, business is business and the strip on Prospect Park SW between 15th and 17th st needs a defibrillator. The Double Windsor is a great start to this revitalization and a great move by the owner. Underage or not, we should support their efforts in area development and watch crowds quit their workouts in the park in substitution for a good beer. -
deddysyr- Respectfully submitted; you mean PPW from 15th to 17th Sts., right?
-
Thanks for the check. I meant PPW.

forgot my log-in password for a while there...
so, we've just started implementing a "no one under 21 years of age allowed after 5pm" policy.
hope you all had a nice thanksgiving. check out our holiday ales series starting this sunday... some hearty winter warmers to thaw our cold, cold hearts. -
^ excellent news, Greg. Glad that you were responsive to feedback!

is food being served yet?
-
yay curleygreg! After witnessing a kid crawling on the bar last week - well past 5 (while his two drunken parentals paid 0 attention) I welcome this - and I dont have to scold the kid for stealing my seat! Kids are great but not at bars after 5P!!!

the crawling doesn't bother me, I get upset when the child or their drunken parents drool in my drink . -
Good move---
Next, Carta Blanca on draft.. -
is there food yet or is it bring your own still? (want to come over in a bit but need to know if i should be carrying my own chow)
-
at this point you'll have to bring your own, if it's before 5PM make sure you bring some Gerber's for the unruly .
-
we went @8:30, with burritos in hand.
i like it there, though i do think the volume is a little high. are the ceilings tin? i don't remember. but otherwise perfect. -

went there this past tuesday when there was a live cajun band. it was a very enjoyable, relaxed atmosphere, and hubby & i really enjoyed the music! oh, and they have a couple of awesome rum cocktails -- yum! we will definitely be back when the band plays again... i wonder if they have a regular schedule?
-
foods, when?
-
I got a note that they were trying out their food on New Year's Eve, so I hope shortly thereafter. I have been meaning to get back there (after 5pm, of course!)
-
One bartender also told me about food coming on NYE. Typical pub food. I might have to spend NYE at the Double Windsor! The same bartender said it probably will be packed.
-
rumor is they'll be serving after new years (and yes, hopefully on NYE!) - self serve style (think fette sau). Seriously looking forward to it.

my girlfriends and I stopped by the DW the other night, and while the ambiance was great, we were not too happy with the drinks. The bar seemed to have a great beer selection, but as far as mixed drinks went, they were actually pretty bad. I wish I was into beer...
-
anyone check out the bluegrass band on thursdays?
-
the hamburgers rock, with awesome skinny fries. the guy who cooks--co-owner? i've met him several times, nice guy.--came by my table after my friend ordered to convince me that i didn't actually want my burger crazy well done. wanted to assure me the beef was freshly ground. i believe him, but i like things cooked till they're killed. still, was impressed with the service.
i feel good about this bar, it's nice having it so close to home. the music is a tad loud, and the bartenders could be, um, friendlier. otherwise? i love it. -
The burgers are great but to quote my mom, "I think you're a bit high on that." A burger with cheese and bacon is $15; $11+ $2 each for 2 slices of cheese and 2 pieces of bacon.
That's quite a lot to charge for the toppings.
At least give me a free beer if I order a burger w/ the works. Setup some combo deal.
The fries are good but I generally like a thicker fry.
Some of the bartenders definitely need some help/training. Not very quick and tend to bounce around the bar rather than going down the line. I was also a bit irked by getting my beers poured a good inch below the rim during happy hour. It's a discount, not a "small"
Great beer selection that is always changing. Good move going back to Guinness as the one standard. -

I like the place okay but I'm glad I'm not the only one to notice the bartenders just don't seem to pay attention very well to people holding money in their hands trying to buy drinks. I had to practially chase one around the bar to get her to take my money in exchange for a beer.
But the vibe is nice and I want to try the food. Glad it's in the neighborhood. -

yeah it's not cheap. but, and i say this half agreeing with you, when you compare the price of other places that ask just a couple bucks less for a bacon cheeseburger deluxe, we're actually pretty reasonable. think about what we're offering... compared to, say, a diner. And then think about what you eat at the diner for $10 (plus tax, we include sales tax). Creekstone Farms supplies some of the best beef out there and our bacon kicks some serious butt (Neuske is the bomb).

as for bad bartenders: i see some problems here and there, so if you could... consider that a part of our growing pains and trust that we'll work out the kinks in good time.
cheers all,
greg
p.s. i'm at the bar a lot. why not ask for me and voice these concerns in person? -

I definitely see your point on the quality of the beef & bacon. next time i'm at the bar I'll make myself known.
and if you ever see a group of 10-20 of the coolest, most attractive, funniest, and most raucous people you've ever seen, that will be the Brooklynian crew. Or maybe just Flexi and her entourage. -
^ Ha. Greg won't be fooled. He's met me many times :-)

can i just say how much i'm loving the cajun band Catahoulas? this is the second time i heard them there. so much fun enjoying their performance on Fat Tuesday.
each time i go back to DW i like it a little more. haven't tried the food yet, but friends have said the pulled pork 'wich was great! personally i love the fact that they carry Doc's cider, and have a small number (read: not huge list) of well made cocktails
