Anyone having dropping internet connection with Cablevision?

Since last week my internet connection has been dropping every 2 minutes for 5 minutes. Basically it is unusable ...

Anyone else having the same issue with Cablevision in the neighborhood?

  • I've had no trouble with optimum online and I'm in Ditmas Park. Usually if the internet keeps dropping like that it might very well be a faulty modem. Call Optimum and let them walk you through things. Last summer I had similar troubles and my modem got changed and I've been (knock on wood) good.
  • I have Optimum Online in the Prospect Heights/Lefferts Gardens area and have very few problems compared to when I had Time Warner and lived in South Slope. Of course, the recent snowstorm may have downed some cables.

    I have noticed that my modem occasionally stops working when I have been downloading large files for a long time, particularly if I do more than one at a time, and particularly with, um, certain file-sharing programs :evil:

    Resetting the modem always works, however.

    Cablevision called me yesterday night to tell me that they have been having an outage since last Saturday and it was now fixed. Of course when I called their Tech Support two days ago he just told me that my modem may be the problem ...

    Now I am going to call the billing department in order to get some credits ....
