Prosecco recos? — Brooklynian

Prosecco recos?

I was asked to bring some bubbly for tomorrow night's festivities at a friend's. Instead of champagne, which everybody else will probably be bringing, I thought of getting a couple of bottles of a nice prosecco wine.

Any recos?

  • Villa Jolanda is the prosecco that Bar Toto serves. And you can get it from Fresh Direct! (Or you used to be able to.)

Big Nose Full Body has a really great fizzy rose that isn't sweet at all. It's lovely and light and I just want to stick a straw in it. But I forget what it's called.
  • yes! I love Prosecco and have some in my fridge right now. they sell this one at Red, White and Bubbly:

    Prosecco Mionetto

  • Shawn on 7th near Carroll has two nice, reasonable brands: Anime and LaMarca (about $12-$14). They're delicious.
  • And Caseo might know, of course!
  • For sure Case knows but I have not seen her post here recently

Would it be advertising to post where she works? Or would it just be a helpful response?
  • I usually go to Shawn so I'll probably pick up the recos from there, though I'm tempted to try the Mionetto from RW&B too.

    Thanks guys!
  • I remember. She does work at [removed]? Right?

Mod Note: Unless someone gives the OK, probably saying where they work might be TMI for a public board.
  • Seriously, try the Mionetto! We love it,
  • Cristalino -- it's a Spanish sparkling wine that's like $12 a bottle and super delicious. I think you can get it at Adam's on 17th and 5th.
  • Veets - yup!

You got prosecco recs, so I'd like to open up an etiquette question. I'm going to suggest you consult your host about what you're bringing.

My rule of thumb: If you're bringing bubbly for yourself, then bring what you want of course. If you're sharing and were asked for a bottle of champagne, well...it's not the same thing and two bottles are not better than one in everyone's opinion. And I have two bottles of prosecco in my fridge right now to prove it.
  • Pitu, I could just pick up a bottle of Veuve Cliquot and be done with it, but I think my hostess will appreciate the variety. There will be several hours of drinking to get through! :drunken:

See, that's it exactly - I'd rather my guests had just picked up the widow C. Instead, we all drank champagne and had the other left behind. Nobody likes to downshift to the cheap booze...

    wait, that's not exactly true.
    :D

Anyway, have a great party! I'm hoping we get fireworks in snow at midnight!
  • Isn't prosecco just Italian champagne? I know you can only call things champagne if they are actually from that region of France, everything else is really sparkling wine, though, most people call it champagne just like most people call any aluminum wrap reynold's wrap even if it is not by that company.

But, again, isn't Prosecco just italian sparkling wine/champagne? So, if someone asks you to bring champagne, is it that big of a deal to bring prosecco?

  • I got a bottle of Mionetto and one of LaMarca. Both at Shawn! And, I think my friend said to bring "bubbly", then she mentioned Cava. So I'm just switching countries on her.

    Enjoy the festivities everyone!
  • so how was it?

There were so many bottles people were just filling their glasses with whatever was chilled and open at the moment. And it wasn't even that big of a party, just 20 - 25 people. I didn't get to try the proseccos I brought. They were finished off pretty quickly.

I guess I'll have to get some more... :D
