Property owners need to clear snow and ice (5th and Pres)
Yes, the latest restaurant failed, but that doesn't give the property owners the right to ignore City laws and let snow and ice build up outside their property. Every time it snows or freezing rains, all of President st is clear except for the stretch near Fifth Ave, which ends up inches thick with ice on uneven sidewalk.
Anyone who lives in the neighborhood, please call 311 and report this. The property owners have a responsibility to clear out snow and ice.
I know, this dangerously close to whining, but after watching an elderly woman take a spill outside what was once Playa, I've seen enough.

It seems that on this board the expectation for people to follow the law is whining. I'll call 311 right now.

I travel far and wide through our fair borough, and the Slope is consistently the worst shoveled hood I see - and most dangerous for pedestrians as a result. In Bed Stuy, Bushwick and other less wealthy neighborhoods, it gets taken care of much more quickly and thoroughly. If property owners don't buck up, renters pick up the slack.
I think many slopers have forgotten that community exists not just online.

i always though this was due to liability, not laziness
i.e. If someone falls and hurts themselves on your sidewalk and you didn't shovel, you have no liability. BUT if you shovel and do a bad job and someone slips? They can sue you and you would be held liable.... no? -
No... you have liability in both cases.
If you help a neighbor shovel his walk, and someone falls and hurts themselves on his walk, you may have liability, whereas you would not had you not been a good samaritan.
But on your own sidewalk, you have liability regardless.
Howdy, Stranger!
