I realllly don't understand the appeal of DUMBO at all. -

I'm with you. The architecture is not there, the commerce is ultra hip, precious, and expensive, the traffic on the bridges is damn loud, and I keep imagining how awful the rat problem must be come dusk.
I honestly would like to know why people feel so loyal to Dumbo. -
Keep on topic people

What's not to love about DUMBO? They've got Grimaldi's, great chocolate, and it's just a five minute walk from the projects!

I love Prospect Heights...but I am also quite fond of Brooklyn. It's great that we are glad to live where live instead of feeling otherwise. Tough birds that we are.
Good night. -
I was told by someone who lives in DUMBO and has every reason to love it that DUMBO is so over now. And that was over a year ago. Let's face it, it was a hyped-up neighborhood that never actually made anything of itself. Meanwhile, everyone hates Park Slope while it keeps getting better and better.

I love that PS architecture photography site, but I wish they had some context behind the original owners/residents because there are a lot of interesting and cool stories to be discovered. For instance, photo #7, 70 Eighth Avenue, was built for a shipping magnate who married in 1895 and his family lived there with four sons and three daughters. My own building is mentioned in an open letter to American Bolsheviks written by Leon Trotsky.

I am in LOVE with this site now, thanks!!
I sent this link around, and someone sent this back to me---its from his mother, and she used to live in one of those houses!(wont tell me which one....

DUMBO used to be cool, now it's the most Disney-fied neighborhood in New York. It does has some pretty views of the bridges but now that my favorite restaurant is gone - Hecho en Dumbo (which is moving to the Bowery), I have much less reason to go.
-
Dumbo is a nice place to visit but I would not want to live there. I won't bore you with the list of reasons. There are a few restaurants that I enjoy.. especially Bubby's (did I spell that right?) for brunch if I have small kids in tow and then we got to playgond and then we watch the water so close to land, as it should be (lol) and then we go home to park Slope!

A friend lived in Dumbo with his wife for about 2 years. They liked it at first but it got very boring after a while. They moved do Brooklyn Heights.
Dumbo seems to loose its apeal after a while. Its a ghost town late at night.
And as mentioned earlier....not much architecture -
i guess im just overwhelmed with the waterfront views and the two bridges. i do admit, though, not too many stores and lots of hipsters.
-
the only reason there are "hipsters" in dumbo is because so many design companies and magazines are run out of the area. None of them live there.
Howdy, Stranger!
