Any opinions about 5th Avenue Cat Clinic? — Brooklynian

Any opinions about 5th Avenue Cat Clinic?

I like the idea of taking the cats to a vet where they don't have to deal with any dogs, since they're unfamiliar with them.

We used Animal Kind for a long time for our previous cat, and they were fine, but the dogs really freaked her out.

Thanks.

  • I used to take my cats there for that reason. Never, ever again.

One of my cats ended up with a huge lump after routine shots, began losing a tremendous amount of weight (1/3 of her body weight within 2-3 weeks) and was vomiting and lethargic. I took her there for 2 follow ups after the shots and they kept telling me she was fine and not to worry.

My baby died overnight when I took her to the emergency vet after she was not getting better.

Can I prove they were negligent? Probably not. Do I know in my heart they missed something and should have chosen a different course of treatment? Absolutely (and the emergency vet concurred).

Is this just MY opinion? Yes.

Would I recommend this place to anybody? Never in a million years.

P.S. Am very pleased with the care my 2 current cats are receiving at Prospect Park Animal Clinic on PPW/5th St.
  • I actually used to work out with the PPW vet's wife, and I've met him on the street a few times. Seems like a very nice guy.

Thanks. Personal experience is important to me. I'm so sorry about your poor kitty.
  • I have used Animal Kind in the past and had good experiences with the vet care there but my cats were always freaked by the busy waiting room.

I recently have used Prospect Park Animal Clinic and found the care to be excellent plus the outfit is a bit more low key. Even thought the practise is consistly busy, I think only one vet has hours at a time, so the waiting room is calm.

That would be Dr. Silverman (the main guy). My friend bikes with his wife as well.

I've also seen Dr. Quim and Dr. Holloway.

It's obvious they (and their techs) care very much about animals. All of the vets return phone calls and have been patient with me when I am freaking out if my cat(s) are sick.
  • I am also in favor of all cat clinics but think that 5th Avenue Cat Clinic pretty much stinks. I would recommend Prospect Park Veterinary Clinic instead. I am very picky about who takes care of my cats and have nothing but good things to say about Dr. Silverman and Dr. Holloway. They will take good care of your cats for you.
  • ^ just to avoid confusion, that place is called Prospect Park Animal Clinic.

    Here is their info:

  • Thanks to all of you!
  • Good luck and let us know how it goes. I find one of the receptionists (the blond) a bit abrasive at times, but every body else is fabulous.
  • They're up on their vaccinations (rescues I got at about four months; they're about six months now) and have already been spayed. One of them has decided that she occasionally likes to venture out of the litterbox to do her business. When she did it twice yesterday I got worried about her health, but I think it's because she thinks that if she soils elsewhere, I'll do what she wants.

So now I'm feeding them their canned food first thing in the morning before I get the kids ready for school. I'm also keeping the (more than one) litterboxes even cleaner, which -- short of changing them daily, isn't that easy, since they are pretty clean, and I took their bed away, at least for the time being, since that's where she went twice yesterday. She's used the box just fine over the past 18 hours or so, and I've treated her (and her sister) to some Kitty Kaviar. Call it positive reinforcement or a bribe; either way, it seems to work. Hmmm. I guess she did get what she wants.

I need a vet on deck, though, in case it continues and she seems sick. We already had a problem that was cleared up when I realized she was eating our new dragon tree (toxic).

Sorry so long. I'll let you know how it goes once I finally get them there.
