    Therefore we should reduce the minimum wage to less than $1.00 per hour, and force people to put their little children to work in sweatshops, their women in brothels, and their men in the coal mines.

    we civilized americans would never DREAM of doing that...we'll just continue to capitalize on countries that do and patron monopoly retailers that dictate manufacturing costs in virtually every industry (literally from salad dressing to engagement rings to private jets and every method by which these items are shipped.) Or, if not shopping at them directly, we'll indirectly support them by buying goods made in companies that manufacture to-spec, to-pricepoint products for these retailers (which, incidentally, has caused a general deterioration in quality for almost every major manufacturer of...anything.)

    None of us are truly innocent unless we only consume that which we grow on our own soil and build with our own hands. Which is totally unrealistic. Just because we don't have our children in sweatshops or we don't have a local neighborhood walmart doesn't mean that we're not all contributing to the huge global impact of our disgusting consumerist society.

    Just a little healthy dose of self-loathing... I don't profess to have a solution, but the whole idea that we're somehow "better than" the countries which we financially and morally rape to have our $1.99 ziploc bags is delusional.

    Thanks, now I'll definitely shop there.

    Sure, why let something like facts interfere with your shopping and eating habits? ](*,)
  • I generally don't check to see that the CEO of a company agrees with me on every political issue before I spend money on their products or services. That would take way too much effort and, I fear, leave me with few places to buy things. Plus I would never be able to fill my car with gas. John Mackey might be kind of a jerk, but I doubt all of his employees, board, and investors share all his opinions. Basically, for me, it will come down to qualty, convenience, service and price.
  • ^fyi.... that article points out that Whole Foods is rated by its employees as one of the best places to work.

    Flexi - certainly don't let something like facts interfere with your shopping and eating habits ](*,)

    <snark>

    Fair enough. On the other hand, it could be "one of the best places to work" because there's so little competition for that title in the US, given the paltry support for decent pay/benefits for all.

    Sweetie, seems you're out of touch with facts. I normally don't care for someone's politics when I shop for food but since you posted your political views, which happen to disagree with mine, I commented thusly. I'm glad they are union hating ( they won't go bankrupt anytime soon) and anti-climate gate. Clear as mud?

    yup, and now that we've cleared up that pesky matter of climate change, we can move on to something more important, like Obama's birth certificate.
