How do we get service like this in Crown Heights?

  • move to Brownstoneville.. :P jk.. i can't even see the link
  • Nope....
If fact I see cops on the subway late at night and everytime they get off at Eastern Parkway or Franklin. Not 1 left at Nostrand.
  • Our block association has finally been reconstituted and I've attended a number of meetings. Representatives from the 77th have been at each meeting to talk about crime issues on/around the block including the drug dealing in the neighborhood and the shooting that occured on Park Place down the block from the school.

On of the things they have talked about is the fact that the precinct is understaffed. If you don't see police at Nostrand late at night, its probably because there haven't been a lot of incidents there. Unfortunately, the policing is somewhat reactive in this neighborhood. That being said, they have been very willing to listen to complaints and we've seen some changes (albeit small ones).

Get out and attend some of the local meetings like the community board, precinct council, and the block association meetings. Call 311, write letters and generally complain. One of the reasons that the meeting regarding Putnam and Grand happened was the ongoing complains of the neighborhood, coupled with the exposure and discussion of the issue on Brownstoner. These blogs are pretty widely read by the police and local politicians, and if we do more than just sit back and bitch amongst ourselves they will respond.
  • Damn  That last post was mine.
