Will this be their 2nd location or just a move? I have never been there,
-
2nd location it sounds like...
the other is on 8th avenue...
never been there either. -
Johnny Mack's is not bad, I avoided it for years before finally giving it a try and was pleasantly surprised to find that its fine for a beer and a burger or salad and very kid friendly.
I like 12th street bar much better for both eating and drinking, but johnny macs is ok.
It will be good to have another place to get a beer on that end of 7th ave. -
Works for me. Johnny Mack's has a good burger and that stretch of 7th needs a good bar. Maybe this will make the Ale House step up it's sad food game.

Snooky's revenge!

I am thrilled that a place will be opening in the spot whose owners know the area and already have a successful business. That is such a good omen. I don't know if the "tea/lunch" ladies can be drawn back here. They have either found other haunts or...... died. Second option is sad.

We all know that won't end well. -

Ditto, veets. I've been watching the goings on for the past couple months and can't wait for them to open. On a sad note, I do know of a few Snooky's customers that have passed away since they closed. -
Always psyched for an new bar option, although hopefully you'll be able to watch some football her with your lunch and a kid.
I heart the Ale House, though, and think they've got some delicious menu options. Portobello wrap? Buffalo calamari? Nice wings? All good. -
I'll admit their wings are decent.
-
new2hood,
someone told me that they saw them installing televisions in there so you might be in luck.... -
Would love for them to be good old school american food. We live right near the Ale House and think their food is blech.
-
Johnny Mack's always had excellent food. Presumably they still do, I just don't have the opportunity to go very often anymore.
They serve 'Pub Food' with extra thought and care, as well as some casual 'finer' cuisine. Maybe a Gastro-Pub, whatever that is?
The nabe needs more classy but casual pubs. We have a ton of hipster dives and scene-ey bars, but virtually no adult, casual, classic pubs. Johnny Mack's is very close to that ideal, but tends a little younger (which is OK). -
^After reading that, I am excited!

Right. The property owners got it wrong wrong wrong when they put a New Jersey shopping mall restaurant like Elementi in there, pissing off true neighborhood folks. Now they have a chance to do it right.

Not to be argumentative (I never set food inside Elementi, so I'm not qualified to argue), but what made Elementi a "NJ shopping mall restaurant"?
-
"what made Elementi a "NJ shopping mall restaurant"?"
the 7 foot tall plastic palm trees perhaps? -
Sounds like a Tiki bar... did they serve little paper umbrellas in their drinks?
-
I thought Elementi wasn't bad but there are thread(s) about that.
Anyhoo, a little bird told me 3 weeks till the new place opens...... -

the property owner has no say whatsoever in the choice of decor.
the NEW tenant has the opportunity to redecorate (god willing) . -
There aren't any young drinking people east of 6th Ave anymore! Who's going to go to the new Johnny Mack's?
The Two Bootsies and the multimillion $ brownst-owners? -

Ehem, I believe I'm young-ish, a drinker, no children, and no $$ brownstone owner. I will be eagerly going to JMack's for a burger and beer
either way, exactly13 you're too young to be drinking! [-X -
dammit!
-
Well, I am not young and I do have children but, it sounds like Johnny mack's will be a great place to go eat. Why do you have to be young to go there? Give me a break
-
I guess the youngish, rent poor, can only afford to go to a beer and a burger joint ,where they proof the elderly.
Johnny Mack's is going to cater to those that have disposable income, regardless of age .
For those who can't afford it,Nathan's is good for beer and burgers ,when they issue discount coupons. -
Are they high priced, i mean, more so than the norm around here?
-
Time Out mag a few years back said their burger was one of the best (may have changed over time) but I was never able to get over there to try it. Angus burger with fries for $9.95 seems like the usual in NYC for me. Now that it's closer, I will be there for sure.

Long Time Sloper,Don't think so, It's probably going to have a menu that's in the price range of their current bar.
-
prices seem good to me, again, looking forward to them opening
