Papa John's - Never again (warning: venting)
Subject: Papa John's - Never again (warning: venting)
I just ordered from papa john's and that will be the last time I ever order from them. A little bit of background...I ordered from them a month ago and one of the pizza's was raw. I called and they very nicely gave me a credit for 1 medium pizza.
Tonight, I wanted to order from the store on 4th avenue and was told they couldn't make medium's as thin crust. Since this is what I always ordered, I went back and forth with the person on the phone several times before I gave up and just asked for my credited pizza to be delivered.
When my pizza came, it was in 40 pieces and looked like it was taken from the garbage can. The best part - it was a thin crust medium. I have a picture of this disgusting pizza - I'm not sure how to upload on here, but would gladly do it so everyone can see how despicable the Papa John's on 4th avenue is.
I talked to the manager who was no help. I would encourage everyone on here to think twice before ordering from Papa John's again.

Why in the world were you ordering from Papa John's in the first place?

I am not even going to read what you wrote because for the life of me I can't understand why anyone living in NYC where some of the best pizza in the world can be gotten at tons of various locally owned pizzerias, that someone would order from a chain! Whatever happened to you, you deserve! No sympathy here

Type 'pizza' in the search box. Open a a 'best pizza in the 'hood' thread. Take it from there.

Sloperson needs to upgrade to say.....Pizza Hut or the new sauce at Dominos or something
 -
In Sloperson's defense, Papa John's, Pizza Hut, etc isn't pizza. It's processed bread with processed sauce and processed cheese and processed meat on it. Pizza is what you get from Gino's.
Hopefully this circumstance will finally snap Sloperson's Mid-West mentality and open his/ her mind to the beauty (and consistency) of a handmade, quality New York Pizza. -
i tried the new dominos bc they're one of two places to deliver to my studio. it's not bad, in the realm of "that" kind of pizza. better than elios, cheap, and the crusts are good.
the other place is brother which is, without question, the worst pizza i have EVER eaten in my life. and that includes crappy american cheese pizza at summercamp in the 70s -
still don't know how these places survive in NYC. these are the same people that shove the slice in their face instead of folding it like a normal person.
-
There's a Domino's near my work that does well only because the Elementary School and Middle School get good deals on mass-amounts of their pizza for classroom parties. I don't think I've seen a non-teacher in the place..

You should send your photo and story over to www.fuckedinparkslope.com. They might post the photo for you.

Uh, yeah... there's certainly a lot of good pizza in NYC, but there's even more bad pizza in NYC. Consistency? As in, not varying in quality from day to day? No. There are only a handful of pizza places in the city where I haven't had a bad pie. Don't get me wrong, I back your sentiment for the most part, but you're romanticizing NYC pizza a bit much. -

Those are ads. -
This thread is even more hysterical with the Papa John's Ad next to it! WTF? =D>

I don't care if Papa John's or Domino's make the best pizza in the world, I won't patronize them bc their storefronts are soul-sucking, fluorescent lit tombs of despair. They basically scream blight and deadened street life.

THIS!
The fact that their pizza sucks makes it that much worse. -

Actually I think they use a knife and fork. -
For all the holier than thou pizza purists, give me a break. Obviously, real NY pizza is superior to fast food pizza. I was in the mood for cheap pizza and it's nice to get a few pies and not pay $40. Whatever, lesson learned. I sure won't be getting fast food pizza anymore.
I just wanted to bring this to everyone's attention, because Papa John's has been in business in the Park Slope area for about a year now, so people must be going there (who obviously aren't on this board). As a customer, I was cheated and screwed. -
Yeah, obviously peopel are going there, doesn't mean that they should, and I think you could get 2 pies from a real pizzeria for less than $40.

Weird, it sounds like the same Papa John's pizza I once had delivered ten years ago upstate in college, I've never forgotten it. It was a bunch of separated pizza slices with a huge glop of melted cheese in the middle. I don't even think the slices formed a pie. Completely inexplicable. That said, I've ordered Papa John's here a couple of times and they were fast and the delivery people were very nice. Shame.

And to back up Sloperson, I sometimes order fast food pizza because I'm in the mood for fast food pizza, which I consider a different.. "cuisine" from regular NY pizza. And while good NY pizza is better than anything, to be honest most of the run-of-the-mill Manhattan pizza places--with 20 pies under a glass counter, etc.--aren't anything special at all to me, even compared to fast food pizza. -

yeah sometimes local pizza sucks, only reason to order from chains most of the time is their consistency. some places man trust me on this
chains are better lol. I eatten in almost ever hole in nyc
on fast food. -

Not talking about the ads. There are plenty of recos for great neighborhood pizza places in this board's threads. -
I'd really like to see the photo of this pizza. Post it!
-
Me too! Post that thing!
-
Also, take the photo and write a letter to the corporate office. Let them know what that branch is doing.

I'm pretty sure that pizza is in the dumpster by now.

The OP said he took a photo of it, but doesn't know how to upload it here. -

Heh, being from Miami, I sometimes get a random craving for Pizza Hut. But I like it for nostalgic reasons!
