Cat owners
Does anyone here feed their cat/s raw food? How about all meat canned food like Wysong? I look at the ingredients on these canned and dry foods and they contain a ton of grains and other vegetation. Except for cat nip I don't ever recall any cat going after flax seeds or sweet potatoes. I also learned they're "obligated carnivores". Does anyone have any experience in this matter and wish to share?

cats can be vegan except for taurine which they need for their eyes, i think that's right. it's not like cats normally go out and kill cows & horses and what ever else they put into cat food. i think it's all about the proper balance rather than where it comes from..
my cats aren't vegan... but they eat wysong dry food. they don't like the wysong meat in a can, though, only kale & collards & other vegan food when they can steal a bite. oh, they love seet potatoes and oatmeal and brown rice... but i only feed them dry food with some wet. -
We don't feed our cats raw food, but we've thought about it...
FWIW, the TNR recommends feeding the strays/ferals raw hamburger when leading up to the trapping - they say that it provides a tremendous boost to their system increasing/speeding their recovery.
I'd be surprised if domestic cats didn't outlive their wilder non-sweet-potato-stalking cousins, but how much of that is diet? :? -
I'd definitely ask your vet before putting your cat on a vegan diet. I've heard it's dangerous for them, but I don't know the details.

We feed our cat regular dry food, but we also let her have basically any table scraps she wants to eat. Things she likes:
Fish
Mussels
Lamb Chops
Chicken
Beef
Doritos
Popcorn
Shrimp Etouffe
Migas (tex-mex specialty)
Gumbo
Cold cuts (any)
Cheese (particularly aged cheddars)
that's all I can remember right now. basically cats are crazy and individual cats will eat whatever they want. I wouldnt worry too much. -

LOL. Sounds a lot like my cats although I give them wet and dry food but I can also add Twinkies and the occasional house fly to that list

my older cat can only eat the wellness brand wet chicken food that is grain free. everything else makes her puke. also, she can eat copious amounts of dry wellness brand kitten food. all the other kinds make her puke. so. as a result, my older cat is a real fat-ass. but she's got food in her belly.

I used to make a vegetable puree that I'd use either as stock for stews or as a nice snack (back when I had no money and lots of time). I'd blanch kale, various greens, tomatoes, broccoli, cabbage, beets - any veggie, basically - and then dump the stuff in my blender. anyway, once, instead of using water to blanch, I used beef stock. my cats inhaled the stuff. they previously thought it was grody. -
My cats eat dry food, but they get to lick the dinner plates. They go berzerk for anything from Lemon Grass. And Bobo (the fat one) loves potato chips - all flavors. Plus he munches on various plants on my roof/ deck and pukes them up. lovely

We really try - well, I really try not to let our cats or dog eat anything other than their own food... mainly because they're big enough beggars as it is, and I don't want to encourage it any further. That being said, Jack comes running whenever he hears the rustle of dry spaghetti noodles, and they all show up when they hear popcorn in the microwave... yeah, my wife accidentally drops popcorn every once in a while... :x :x :x
Their normal diet consists of Wellness wet and Organix dry. -
has anyone successfully gotten out cat pee from clothing?
I'm afraid I might never wear my beautiful cream jacket again--the stench is just unbearable. dry cleaning didn't help, and the cleaners guy said handwashing would distort the shape (it's this jacquard-like fabric made of nylon/cotton/linen).
I was going to try handwashing with an enzyme cleaner (petastic), but I sprayed the area down a few times and that seemed to only spread the smell...

I had a cat who - among other things - was partial to corn on the cob and doritos. Didn't like milk though. Go figure.
Edit: Regarding getting cat piss out of anything: forget it. Sometimes time will heal the wound, but cat piss is one of nature's more persistent substances. -
My cat Oscar initially was fed Iams, until I researched enough to know better. For a few years now, I've been feeding him Nutro and he seems to like it well enough. Dry food only, as I free-feed him and he doesn't overeat. However; he'll gladly eat almost any human food he encounters - salmon, cod, ice cream, yogurt, cracker crumbs, you name it - he'll eat it.
-
Drano, you brought back a childhood memory. We had two siamese cats when I was a kid. Every time we had corn on the cob my mom would lay newspaper on the floor and give them the pre-eaten cobs to go wild with.
Another Siamese cat we had loved green olives. First he'd get the pimento out and eat it. Then he'd bat the olive all over the floor til it was filthy and/or he was bored with it... then he'd eat it, too. -

We had a mini schnauzer that loved grapes... and I thought that was weird! -
I've had experiance with kitties on raw diets. In general it's a lot of work as you tend to make it in bulk stashes, bag them, freeze them, and mark an experation. It's honestly a stinky mess though if they don't eat it within an hour or so....
Wysong is a great food as it's all natural and pure meat but is best given with a powdered supplement (also made by Wysong) that helps balance out some carb needs.
As per the strange vegis found in some all natural foods, they're really just a healthier alternative to the normal corn, wheat and preservative fillers that the junkier foods use. It's not that they'd be searching them out in the wild, just makes for a balanced meal

I haven't had experience with it on stains, more for odor, but there's a great product out there called Nature's Miracle. They make both a liqued and a powder that neutralizes the urine smell.

For truly REMOVING urine, this biologically active product works like magic. I've seen it lift and digest years-old urine right out of the floorboards.
The name says it all. Accept no imitations!

My experience with my cat (see pix to the left) is that she'll eat anything that smells like it's decomposing. She also likes 2 day old squirrel and bird intestines.
-
i just watched my cat help himself to some beer and then some iced green tea with lemon... it's too hot in here to stop him.

Haha, my sister had a huge (not fat) white cat that looked just like yours. That cat liked my sister and maybe me on a good day, but other than that she was mean as hell. Tore up our poor dog (no softie) one day just for fun - I cursed the cat as I patched the poor beast up, but I admit it was funny watching the dog give her a wiiiiide berth after that day.
Anyhow, she prefferred her meat fresh and with all the crunchy parts intact - quite an unpleasant sight to happen upon her with the rear half of a mole hanging out of her mouth, entrails uh, trailing on the ground. And the sounds... -
my older cat loves oatmeal and small pieces of bread (which he only gets on special occasions). i also watched him eat a small bit of (dropped! i would never give it to him on purpose) wasabi once. he swallowed it, ran away, and then came back for more. weird.

I myself am a free-feeding NutroMax cat owner of two. Dry only except for fresh catnip and very rarely, tuna juice (the closest they've ever come to human-food).
I give them junk food treats occasionally. They stick their nose up at wet food, but love the occasional cockroach. Oh, and no matter how fresh their waterbowl, they like to drink from the toilet.
Easy breezy. If it works for them, it works for me. (I keep a clean toilet, y'all!) -

My Aubrey loves olives ... I used to buy herbed Provencal olives in a jar which he reacted to as if it were catnip. The other day I'd eaten some black olives and there was juice on the plate, which he rubbed his head all over. My Lucinda begs for croissants, cookies and potato chips.
When I was a kid we had a cat who was crazy for cantaloupe ...
I thought a long time about doing the raw food thing for my cats but it seemed so confusing - how much ground bone, what ratio organ meats to non-organ, which supplements, etc., not to mention grinding this stuff up (and I don't eat meat myself, so, yechh). But then I wonder if it really has to be as exact as some of the websites make out. -
I decided to go the Wysong route. Mostly the 90%+ meat stuff. I mix in some dry veggies and they're set. Other than that I go to the cuisinart and mix liver with either other organ meats or plain meat. I tried feeding them the raw food but they weren't going for it.
-
interesting. I just bought my kitten (god, it's so weird to buy new food since the picky cat is gone) another type of food and I'm worrieda bout how she'll do with it.
-
My cats go through phases. They were all over Merrick canned food when I started buying it, then they ended up refusing to eat it. Their favorite is the Fancy Feast "grilled" varieties.
Re people food and kitties with adventurous tastes, I don't know how many people know that onions and onion powder can be toxic ... also garlic -

And chocolate and cantelope.

Hmm, I didn't know about cantaloupe ... Googling reveals that a lot of cats like it and even the ASPCA's site says "some cats like fresh fruits and vegetables, like broccoli, corn or cantaloupe. You can offer these once in awhile." But then I found a list saying it can cause kidney failure.

None of my cats have been interested in "people food" with 2 exceptions - one was into Stove Top stuffing and the other steals pieces of pocorn out of the bowl. Freaks
-
One of my cats loves scrambled eggs, and Lucy (dog) loves apple and pear cores and an assortment of veggies.
Howdy, Stranger!
