Moving, Need used boxes, Neighborhood info

Have you moved recently? We will come and take those boxes out of your way, also bubble wrap bits, foam, etc. Email [email protected]

We are escaping the gentrification of the Slope after 23 years, moving near the intersection of Flatbush and Linden Blvd. which is either East Flatbush or Prospect Lefferts Garden or Prospect Park South. Anyone know? Would love some neighborhood recommendations!

    Wow, this sounds nasty.. but agree with Rachel Rae..You are pioneers in a neighborhood that is iffy if you want safety and some basic creature comforts.

    I do have some bubble wrap... so pm me if you need some.

    I have close friends who have lived for at least 20 years near the intersection of Rutland Road and Bedford Avenue, on a quiet family block of beautiful brownstones. It is about 8 or 9 blocks from your new home. They have experienced no trouble in their time there, and have made many friends among their neighbors.

    They do have a car, so I doubt that they do much shopping on Flatbush Avenue.

    but that's the point of moving to an un-gentrified area...i'm sure it's much less expensive than where you are now.

    good luck...you will be a part of making change in a new neighborhood. that's a good thing.

    park slope wasn't always as nice as it is now...pioneers moved in when the area wasn't great and helped to make it one of the best neighborhoods in the city.

    Gotta take exception on this comment.
    I have been living here 30 years.. in the part of Park Slope that was not even considered PS back then.... between 5th and 6th Ave.
    And 40 years ago I started out with my first apt. right in the neighborhood that the Op is moving to. So, frankly and sadly it was not gentrified (in that way that we are implying and not saying) back then and in my opinion will never be.

    I think the area is fine as it is and if someone chooses to live there that is fine as well but tell someone tat they are a "pioneer" in the area is ridiculous.

    I await the slings and arrows!

    maybe they do like the neighborhood exactly how it is.

    i do think it would be nice for everyone in the neighborhood though if some better retail and food options opened up in and around that area of flatbush so that a car wouldn't be such an attractive option. one of the best things about living in the city is having things you can walk to. they don't need to be fancy, but just some places for good quality vegetables, fruits, a nice-ish loaf of bread every now and again.

    but you're right. they may like it exactly how it is. not everyone wants the same things. thank god.

    ^of course, if those things DO happen in the area, the people that moved there right before it happened will be called yuppie gentrifying scum.

    There are already nice things in that area... the ones I know of are West Indian bakeries with wonderful specialty breads and patties, among other things. I'm sure there are other attractions as well.

    Thanks everyone. Are any of these posts from people who actually live in the neighborhood? When I first moved to 16th street in 1985 the landlords were burning their own buildings for the insurance money and guys at Farrells Bar called us yuppies and threw bottles at us when we went out clubbing.

    When I first moves down to 5th ave and 12th st. I was warned about getting off at 4th avenue after 8:00. I hear that the Parkside stop is bad a local blog talked about the stop being ugly and needing repair but not about crime.

    I am not trying to be a pioneer. I work in theater, mostly not-for-profit, and need studio space and a home that remains affordable. I moved the Slope when the south end was a stable, blue collar neighborhood. I am moving to another (hopefully) stable blue collar neighborhood, hoping it will stay that way.

    Thank you for the positive input. I will keep y'all "posted" after the move.

    I wouldn't expect to get good info on Flatbush and Linden Blvd on the Park Slope board...packing materials, sure.

    Everything feels different when you live in a place. That's why this site exists in such a hyper-local way.

    I work near there.

    Flatbush, Bedford, Rogers, Nostrand and Church are all thriving commercial strips in that area. There's a lot of interesting activity, restaurants, bars and shopping over there. But don't kid yourself; the neighborhood is pretty rough. Stabbings and shootings in the area are a regular occurrence. There are some beautiful houses on Rutland, Midwood, Maple, etc, but Linden is a long way from there.
