Okeanos

I couldn't decide if it was going to be Greek or Japanese. I'm hoping the former, just because of the number of Japanese places we already have.
-
Actually Greek makes sense considering Okeanos is part of ancient Greek lore. And since it involves the oceans, maybe it will be a Greek seafood restaurant. I could go for that. I just hope it's not too pricey.
-
yes, now that you say that greek seafood is exactly what i heard it was going to be from someone else...
-
It should be opening soon...they took the plywood down a couple of days ago (that is, if their permits are in order...so I take it back).
-
i thin kthey did a nice job on the outside, looking forward to seing what it is

Oh God, I hope so! Then I wouldn't have to go to Astoria for good Greek food (or the one place in Bay Ridge I really like). -

looks good.
although the no credit cards isn't ideal. especially for a place with so much fish, therefore probably a little pricey.
never seen dandelions as a side before. -
looks good and I love a good Greek restaurant, hope it's good enough to make me stop going to Astoria. but, I hate the no credit card thing, we are not big cash people and like to rack up the cc points for travel.

Eggcream, was the lamb shank "arni youvetsi", i.e. lamb shank and orzo cooked with light tomato sauce in a clay pot?
My favorite Greek dish! -

eggcream, did you liek the food? Has anyone else here been? I want to go this weekend, there is one review on Yelp about them but it was written on the day they opened and the complaints in the review just seem dumb to me and sound like they were written by a 12 year old who has never been to a restaurant before. Would like to get feedback form people here

Haven't eaten there yet. We usually prefer to wait till restaurants get the kinks out before we try them. -
What made me think you had eaten there? Nevah mind then! lol

No problem. Let us know when you go.
off topic ....I hope the Miracle Grill space is taken soon. Such a nice large corner spot. Makes me miss Minsky's. -
i still wish they would bring back Rex's there lol
Going to try Okeanos next week -
Anyone been yet?

Walked by Okeanos the other day. The menu looks pretty good. But WTF with all the flat screen TV's on the walls? Kinda strange atmosphere. It was during lunch hour when I passed by. Hopefully those big screens are off during dinner.
-
i walked by around 9:15 and the tvs were on. I am *so* not into tvs in a restaurant, especially one that costs more than $5 a plate.
-
there was an okeanos restaurant along the west side highway in the far west village, similar logo. wondered if they are related? (agree re: tv's. esp because isn't that sports bar right across the street or a block away, if you need a tv!)
-
Subject: Okeanos: great food, service and menu... eh.
Just got back from dinner at Okeanos.
The food is VERY good, but they definitely have some new-restaurant kinks to work out in the pacing, and especially the professionalism of the wait staff.
Also, the menu is a little odd. They seem to be trying to do a pan-Mediterranean thing rather than strictly Greek, but there aren't that many choices, so the menu is kind of a random combination--one Moroccan dish, one or two Italian, etc. There were several things I could have chosen, but I think a fussy eater or a vegetarian might have trouble. Beautiful decorating though. No wine list -- just one red or one white choice, although both were good enough.
All in all I feel like in six months it will either be an excellent restaurant or will be bankrupt--could go either way. -
P.S. The TVs were on (football) but with sound off and closed captioning on. It wasn't too distracting.
-
I wanted to go this weekend, but ended up being sick.
-
I have not been but my friend gave me her report. She *loves* it has been twice now. She said they had some of the new place kinks related to service, but thought the greek food she ordered was fantastic but one non-greek dish her friend ordered was just okay. She said she'll be back soon.
-
My best friend's boyfriend's family owns Okeano's and from what she tells me she said that it's a Mediterranean restaurant with a French twist. I am actually going there on Sunday afternoon to try out the food. I'll let you guys know how everything is.
