Okay, it's the end of the month... is the new bakeshop on Vandy STILL not open? Anyone have an update?

Comments

  • and while we're on the topic of updates, anyone know what's up with the alleged New World Coffee on Washington?

Also the cafe on the corner of Prospect and Grand? I peek in the window from time to time and it does look like they are making progress but at a snails pace.
  • We've heard that New World Coffee has literally been in the works for years, and not to get our hopes up.

The progress on the cafe on Grand and Prospect is indeed moving slowly, BUT there is a newly hung flag-type sign high above the door... *something* Blue... (it's kinda hard to read as the printing is in italics and sideways...
  • Yeah, and what's up with Jumpin' Juice and Java in the old Biscuit space on Flatbush. They got the sign up months ago, but I haven't seen any progress since!

Word! I'm curious to see what type of juice they're serving (as in, blended smoothies or fresh-squeezed... or both.)

It always amazes me how places can take months and months and months to open up (Jumpin Juice) - how can they afford to pay their lease without the business bringing in income?!?

    Deacon Blue. Steely Dan fans?
  • So I wrote to Joyce again to ask her, and this is what she said:

We've run into a few snags as the Dept of Bldgs drags out the permit process. It's been a frustrating waiting process but there are a few inspections that we still need to go through before opening.

As soon as I have a date set, I'll let you know.

So pretty soon, maybe.... Their website is so gorgeous. I can't wait.

Landlords typically grant a grace period for new businesses. Anywhere from a month to three months is common.
  • There was a blurb featuring Joyce Bakeshop in TimeOut this week. That's got to mean they're opening soon, doesn't it?

Afraid that is actually not a good indicator - remember the blurb on Amorina in Time Out, suggesting they were already open many months before they actually did?
  • the website now says they're opening august 28th ....

Cool! I've been seeing a lot of activity there recently. The place looks nice.

(For those that are confused, we're talking about Deacon Blue - see the teeny tiny subject line)
  • Walked by there last night - they were indeed open (edit - Deacon Blue, that is). I didn't linger too long in the rain, but the place looked nice. It's cozy (or 'small,' take your pick), and they need to get something on the walls. Haven't seen any menu info as of yet... :-k
