Volunteer dog walking? — Brooklynian

Volunteer dog walking?

So a number of years ago, I did a number of volunteer events with an ex of mine that were organized by her employer, dog walking for BARC up in Williamsburg. It was a ton of fun, a great way to spend an afternoon.

I'm in no position to adopt a dog right now (it's a good thing there's no equivalent to the ASPCA for houseplants). But dogs are awesome, and I'd love to do something similar. Are there any organizations in PS that need the occasional volunteer walker? I assume there's some kind of vetting (no pun intended) process, but I'm happy to go through it if it means I can occasionally help out by taking a dog to the park for an hour.

    Great group of volunteers.
  • Maybe you have elderly neighbors who could use some help walking their dogs? or, maybe you can just charge for dog walking and start your own little business.

Definitely Sean Casey. I go there sometimes and socialize the cats. I asked about dog walking and they do take volunteers for that - you have to sign them in and out, but no real commitment needed for a specific period of time, etc.
  • I'm sure there are LOTS of people even on this board that would gladly loan you their dog (myself included!)
  • However I do totally get if you want to volunteer for a shelter (as those dogs don't get out much.) I dont know of any options around here, though, I always used to go to BARC
  • Thanks for the Sean Casey recommendation. I've been thinking about stopping by there as well to walk dogs but wasn't sure if there was an application process.
