Banh Mi is everywhere: Home S
The buzz last month about a banh mi joint opening on 5th Avenue between 5th and 6th streets was on the money. On Friday, a place called Home S opened in the storefront next to Willie's Dawgs. All banh mi (classic, pork chop, chicken, etc.) cost $6, and bubble teas start at $3.75. There's no pho on the menu, but a guy working there said there's a possibility it might eventually show up.

Yep, it opened right next door to the new pizza place, got to try both of them. Excited to have a pizza place on 5th Avenue again. And, no, I don't like the pizza at the place on 3rd Street right off of 5th Avenue, blech

LTS - did you like that new pizza place - I didn't like it much - too me it's only a convenience if I'm on the way home and I'm hungry (something quick and cheap)
-
enough of the banh mi - when are we going to get some pho or a decent noodle shop?
-
Well there is the ramen/noodle place on 4th and Degraw. Everyone loves it so far.

Haven't been yet, when I walked by the other day, I had too much going on to stop in. What didn't you like about it? Too saucy? Crust too thick? I'm curious -

Had ZUZU when it first opened, quite expensive but if you don't want to travel to the city its good enough.

LTS, it was just a typical greasy pizza joint (and the pizza was swimming in grease) - and it just didn't seem fresh. Again, it was a couple of bucks for a plain slice and I woudl stop there for a quick slice to go if I was really hungry, but that's about it. I'd rather spend the extra few dollars and get a hot dog at Willies. I wouldn't even consider getting a pie from them for dinner. -

Are you sure you didn't order the "Grease-Lover's Special?" -
Went to Home S (what's up with that name) this weekend. Tastes just like every other banh mi place. So if you like banh mi you won't be surprised. They were a lot quicker than Hanco's. I'll give them that. But still no Vietnamese Meatball sandwich...just the basics.

We really like zuzu, don't find them pricey at all and they do a "kid's ramen" which is great if you have, well, uh, kids, lol -
I was blown away by Zuzu... liked the ramen and broth much better than at Momofuku... the music was much too loud for my taste (yes, I'm old!).

zuzu is a park slope secret, but it shouldn't be.
it could stand on its own with the manhattan noodle places, for sure.
happy to have it in the 'hood.
