CONDOS Going Up At 856 Nostrand @ Union — Brooklynian

CONDOS Going Up At 856 Nostrand @ Union

There's a cool article at:

http://nostrandpark.com/2010/01/22/what-goes-up-856-nostrand-avenue/

about condos going up on Nostrand Ave. There are two empty storefronts on the ground level. I wonder what type of businesses will lease out the space?

I can only hope for good Thai!!!!

  • I think Nostrand, because of all the garbage and noise, is one of the worst streets to live off of. I guess it's a byproduct of just about every building having store fronts on the ground level, which is a good and bad thing.
  • These condos are directly ON Nostrand Ave., right across from Crow Hill Bistro.

Let's see if the developer prices the condos accordingly.., though I am more curious of what businesses will lease the storefronts.

Actually, Nostrand on this side of EP is significantly quieter. Not really sure why that is, it has just as many storefronts, but there just isn't the same vibe. My concern is what happens when Bus Rapid Transit comes and this becomes a one-lane street with parking only at limited times. Its going to suck for the businesses and the residents I think.

But that is a great corner. Crow Hill Bistro, the pizza shop, Superwings, the bodega, and Sunshine all within steps of the front door not to mention the 2,5 and 3 all within one block. That is definitely a prime CH location.
  • careful everyone - I heard from RE brokers the buiding is entering into a program w the City for program housing....nothing wrong w rehabbed housing stock, but that's a far cry from what people think CONDOS bring...

I live on Nostrand at President and love it. The road is loud during morning rush hour, but is quite reasonable at other times. The only trash I see is in bags waiting for a garbage truck to come by. The only guff I had with the area was the only place for me to get my morning coffee was a corner store, but now Dunkin Donuts is on my walk to the 3.

Superwings and Sunshine are great eateries. I like Crow Hill Bistro, though I always have a long wait when I order food.

Hopefully it's one of those programs that uses a lottery to get some qualified moderate income families to purchase and NOT one of those other programs that brings in people with no willingness to invest in their home and quality of life.
