Club Penguin is popular. And moderated by Disney.
And too really blow your mind here are what kids search for:
-
Having gone through 3 boys going on line all I can say is "moderation!". Left alone they will steadily increase their time online to fill their entire day. I actually miss the days when you had to go to gaming parlors and pay by the hour for CounterStrike. At least it had the appearance of social interaction.
-
I agree with Modsquad about moderation. I also cannot stress enough how important it is to teach your children about online safety. We constantly drill our son about this. Its new territory for us parents now because its not really something we went through as kids.
With that said, we do allow our son (who is 13) online, both computer and Xbox. He spends most of his allowed time on Xbox. When he does go on the computer he watches videos on Youtube, or a couple of Xbox gaming forums. What I suggest is see what it is that your child is interested in and maybe check out a few sites first to suggest to them. Personally I'm not comfortable letting my son have a MySpace page or a Facebook page. Luckily he doesn't want one or hasn't shown any interest in it. -
My son is 8 and we have recently been challenged with how to control his WII time. I think we have a reasonable system now, but I know this is just a warm-up for when he gets older and more sophisticated and develops an interest in the computer.
Can anyone share with me pointers for the "computer safety" talk we'll need to have soon, and also strategies on controlling screen time? -
Wow! Who would have thought that kids 7 & Under google porn? That boggles my mind!! I was doing a little research myself and found an online game called Fantage! I decided to sign up my daughter and she really liked this game. I was able to modify her account where I turned off the chat option completely. You get to go on "missions" and play lots of different games. I'm still thinking about getting her a premium membership because i know with that she'll be able to buy more "clothing."
I found this on a site- and i truly believe it "A strong safety feature that will help protect your child from any unwanted chat is the [No Chat] option. If parents choose the [no chat] option for their child, the user will not see any chat dialog or messages, except for official announcements from Fantage administrators." -
brightlights, do you know anything about the company behind it?
Where are they based? Do they have a phone number, address or other contact info on their site in case someone's child is having a problem (safety or otherwise)?
Are they an established company that's fully compliant with COPPA (childrens' privacy) etc. laws?
Does anyone know anything about them?
Just curious. -
Whoa, kids googling freakin' porn?? That's crazy. Wow.
If I had a kid, no internet for him/her. Nope. They can discover the internet when they're married and out of the house just like I did.
They want video games-Bam! Got Super Nintendo for you, baby. Play Mario, save that god damn Princess. It takes skills and it comes in handy later in life. I can dodge water puddles on the street like it ain't nobody's business. Yup. Learned that from Mario and Luigi.Ha! I'm serious, though. 8-[ -
i want to know why they all google "google".
