City Rushing Surprise Demolition, Residents of Landmark Bed-Stuy Block Claim

A load-bearing wall that was shared by two homes, 329 and 331 Macdonough St., collapsed and broke a gas line during renovations in the basement on Wednesday morning at about 5 a.m.

Residents woke up to find their block packed with fire truck and the buildings were evacuated. But residents say they have not been allowed back into their homes, leaving them without change of clothes or access to their personal belongings.

The next day, representatives of the Department of Buildings (DOB) informed residents that the two buildings would have to be demolished on Friday

    Contact local politicians please! If NY can give grants and tax breaks to millionaire developpers, surely there are funds to help these people stay in their homes.

    This very conveniently is happening over the weekend, so shady.
