It should be noted that running up costs in the short-term probably helped in providing an extremely effective bargaining chip, making NBC (those that screwed this all up in the first place) pay up fairly to account for the yearly income Conan would have enjoyed if given the same stint Leno had before him.
Anyone who can't see that NBC upped their settlement 50% from $30MM up to $45MM this week just to get him off the air immediately is completely missing the [just, IMO] genius of this. -
Also, remember that its not just that his bosses screwed him, they caused him to uproot his family and move them 3,000 miles away and did the same thing to another couple of hundred folks who worked for the show. While I do think that Conan is being very nicely compensated for his troubles, I don't think that the suits at NBC deserve to be treated any better.

as i don't watch TV much, i wouldn't particularly care, except that something about jay leno has always pissed me off. i don't know exactly why -- i don't find him funny, but it's more than that. he just seems like an asshole to me. so it's very cheering -- almost a relief -- to see that i'm not alone in that view. particularly the rosie/howard stern stuff.

^ I don't find Jay funny at all. I find his voice annoying and his "comedy" just doesn't seem very "smart". Gimme a Jon Stewart over any of them any day
