Bklyn USPS Miracle: New Yorker magazine delivered on TUES
Yes, Ladies and Gentlemens, it happened.
For the first time in a long damn time, my New Yorker magazine arrived in today's mail. It's been arriving usually on Thursday and sometimes as late as Saturday. I'm in the north slope and generally have a very good postal carrier, but the magazine dropped back more than a year ago, as discussed on this board...

We received ours today also.

Me three. Last week I got it earlier again too. I had to look at the date to be sure.
I complained via phone and email. Maybe enough other people did too -
got mine today too--the one with the dog on the cover

Got mine today too.
-
I actually think this is more of the New Yorker changing their mailing date than USPS. I actually get my USPS mail very quickly here in WT - none of the same complaints I hear about mail in the S. Slope
-
Are we talking about New Yorker or New York? New York had the dog on the cover and we got it early.
-
I'm talking about the New Yorker with a 4-panel cartoon of Obama and a date of Feb. 1
-
I actually got my New Yorker yesterday! I can't remember the last time I got it on Monday.

You're about to hit 13,000 posts. You better post something special. -
Park Slopiest thread ever.
-
Yeah.. totally a PS thread and I live her and get the New Yorker.. so got it today, as well.
But it does usually come tues. -
Ah, that explains why I got my "Business Week" today when it should have come last Friday...I think for every magazine that is delivered on time, another must be delayed.

I posted a few months ago about how mine used to come on Tuesday (very occasionally on Monday) and then started coming on Friday. I called them and they said as long as I received it before the publish date on the cover (this week's is Feb. 1) they consider it on time, which sucks because all of the listings would then be out dated for movies, shows, etc.
But it does usually come tues. -
Saturday, our regular postman was not on duty and a substitute delivered mail.
I received no mail addressed to us, but received an entire delivery--at least 10 pieces--addressed to my next door neighbor. On Sunday afternoon, someone--guessing yet another neighbor--slipped our mail in our slot.
But somehow the bills always seem to find us. -
our NYer came, too! crazy!
-
It was a NYer Tues all around. Congrats Carnivore and holy crap, 13 THOUSAND?
-
Yup, my New Yorker came yesterday (I'm in Prospect Heights). The husband and I have noticed a recent improvement in the arrival of our magazines (me: NYer; he: The Economist).
-
Maybe they all got delivered on time because one of the caption finalists on the back page is a Park Slope elementary school student!
-
I just knew PS kids were smart enough to be in the New Yorker
-
Yeah Flexi.. I am smart enough but to be honest there are issues where I read nothing of them. I collect them and if we go on a vacation I catch up. I am probably 3 years behind right now.
I grew up in a household that always read the New Yorker. Perhaps people had more time to read back then. If I canceled the subscription I would feel I was canceling out my own enjoyment of things weekly and literate in the magazine world.
Mark that post "true confessions." -
I get mine on the Kindle so it comes every Monday w/o fail. I've received the print edition on Friday too many times.
-
anyone else ever get their TimeOut New york on like Saturday afternoon. By some miracle I got mine on Thursday last week, but its been consistently on Saturdays. It makes me wonder why I subscribe considering its a magazine about the weekend which is half over by the time I get it.

Exactly
That is why I stopped that subscription. -
Agree wrt Time Out.
But what I'm learning from this thread is that these delays can be the fault of the individual magazines. I had always assumed that USPS just held them until a day when there was some extra room in the bag i.e. considering them 3rd-class mail. -

I would agree with that if my magazines ALWAYS arrived late. Some weeks they're on time, other weeks it could be Wednesday, or Thursday, or the weekend. There were a few weeks when my NYer (normally a Tues.) came on Friday, and the hub's Economist (normally a Fri.) came on Weds. And then there was the weeks in December when I received NYers out of sequence. December was an especially bad month--must have been all the catalogues.

I'm dumping Time Out when my subscription is up because I think we've outgrown it. I found the listings great when I was in my early 20s, but not so much anymore, and the articles are absolutely irrelevant to me. -
I feel that same way about Time Out.
yeah I go out plenty but the magazine gives me few hints about where I want to go
And.. there is nothing in it to actually read.
Now I do get the NY Times delivered every day and call me old fashioned but reading the paper with coffee is something I do not do on line. Around Christmas suddenly we started to miss deliveries. Many calls later I finally told the person I would cancel if this went on.
She bumped me to a supervisor.
Magic.
I haven't missed a paper in 10 days and every two days I get a call from Florida asking if the delivery is ok. I think the magic words were..."I will cancel."
Not saying this technique would work with magazine delivery. -
Yes, I got all 3 of my mags on Tuesday this week: NY, NYer and Newsweek. It's been a long time since that trifecta appeared so early - even though all 3 come on the stands on Monday.
I don't believe it is the fault or cause of the publisher, though. My neighbor's father in Queens consistently gets his NYer on Mondays while ours dribble in on Thursday or Friday. And my friends across Flatbush in 11238 always get their Newsweek on Mondays. When I lived in NC, I got my New York magazine on Mondays and then moved to Brooklyn (11217) and mine came of Wednesdays. Or later.
It's this PO - it's always been this PO. -
We moved from the Slope to New Jersey this weekend, and I feel compelled to resurrect this thread to point out that, in my first week living outside of Brooklyn, my New Yorker showed up on Monday. If you all got yours early this week, then it's just a coincidence; otherwise, I'm taking it as affirmative evidence that the USPS in Brooklyn is just as terrible as I always thought they were.

I can't imagine moving last weekend. So hot! I am impressed, however, that your NYer made it to you w/in days of your move. Enjoy NJ! -
Yeah, that's all well and good but I haven't gotten Gourmet in over a year despite repeated complaints. Someone must be stealing it.
Howdy, Stranger!
