New Bar on 5th Between 22nd and 23rd?
Hello,
I was walking just past Guerrero's and the Chinese food joint (Vegetarian Delight)one night recently, and for the first time in a yr. of walking past this block literally everyday....I noticed what looked like it might be a bar opening up in the near future? There was some guys inside and it looked like work was going on...the only thing that looked done was a bar! I hope this is true...If so, I can belly up for a drink just moments after walking out my front door. Has anyone heard any buzz?

I walked by again tonight on my way home from work and saw them working on it! I am going to chat with them next time and get the scoop...it would be sweet if they had a two for one 45 cents deal again hah..

Let us know what they say. A neighbor said it looked nice, albeit small.

Walked by last night (did not have time to go in). It's called "Bar 718" (from the address). Very cozy and loungy looking.
Let us know if anyone tries it out. -
My husband and I stopped in Bar 718 on Friday night. It's a friendly place. Massive flatscreen over the back area, which will eventually (per Christian, the bartender and one of the owners, if I understand correctly) have a foosball table back there. (One caveat: that back area has a low ceiling.) Right now, the music is from Christian's iPod, but they are thinking of getting a jukebox.
I had a very nice Sauvignon Blanc from South Africa, and the Spousal Unit had very generous pours of Woodford Reserve. We also had great conversation with a couple of women from the neighborhood.
Can't tell you whether the prices were low because they've only been open a week, or because they plan to keep them low, but we got out of there really cheaply. The music is loud enough that you can make it out, but not so loud that you have to raise your voice to be heard over it, and an interesting mix.
While our hearts belong to Quarter, and David's magnificent cocktails, I suspect that we will go back to Bar 718 regularly. I just wish they had a different name, because googling for "Bar 718" is absolutely no help whatsoever. (I feel the same about "Brooklyn Bar" -- no one will ever be able to google for it.) -
Went to this place last night. Very good local crowd there. The owner used to be a partner in Black Sheep on Bergen St/5th Ave down the other end of the slope. There is not a massive tv in the back, but a projection tv. Good music and great wine at good prices. Christian is very open to suggestions, possibly some food coming in the future.

Well, the local bar count is back down by one: Ellis closed abruptly on Sunday. The staff were not informed, and arrived to find the restuarant being gutted: kitchen taken apart and sold, pool table being removed, etc.
I like(d) Seth Ellis, but closing the restaurant and not having the decency to call or text the staff scheduled for that day is a lousy thing to do. I hope no one's lost property that they left there. -
Went to 718 on Saturday night after a slice at Luigis and had a great time. We ordered vodka tonics and chatted with the OTHER owner, Damien.
(Editorial note: with names like Christian and Damien I agree the bar name could have really been something special, but since the address is 718 5th Ave and, of course, this is Brooklyn there is something rather charming about it).
Great ambiance, great look, very comfortable and very fair prices. Full of locals and permeated with an easy-going, convivial atmosphere. The music was great and set at the perfect volume. We really enjoyed watching the Olympics on the big screen and will be back for the World Cup (and any old nights too). Its a perfect little watering hole and I am glad its so close to us.
Yay for 718! May they prosper.
Howdy, Stranger!
