Double parking not allowed in North Slope anymore? — Brooklynian

Double parking not allowed in North Slope anymore?

Hey all,

I know lots of you hate double parkers, but I've always done it during street cleaning with contact info in the windshield with no problems. I did it today and got a ticket. Are the powers that be cracking down on this "courtesy?"

Thanks for any insight...

  • I would guess that you left your car double parked past the alternate side street cleaning end-time? Meter maids only ticket on my block (also NSlope) when street cleaning ends and neighbors complain that you haven't moved it back.

I wish they only ticketed in s.slope...when I had my car it was towed twice, both times the ticket said it was 1 minute after streetcleaning ended.
  • Once in a while you get an agent who decides they are going to ticket the whole block. I saw it on my street a few years ago. Soon enough, she had an angry mob chasing her down the street....

  • Hi all,

Thanks for the comments, but no, it was DURING the street cleaning. We have street cleaning from 11:30-1:00, and I went out at 12:40 to leave, and had a big fat ticket...
  • Were you in a bike lane? Was the ticket for double parking or for something else?

If you did everything right and the ticket was just for double parking, then you just got unlucky, once in a while like someone else said, an agent decides to ticket the block for the hell of it. It is just a courtesy that they allow us to double park during street cleaning, technically, it is still illegal.
  • Flexi: I don't get that picture. Is it an "inside joke"? Or an actual capture of snickers in the wild?
  • Her name is "Snooki" from MTV's Jersey Shore. They also call her Snickers.
  • That's the cost of doing business.

Divide the cost of the ticket by the number of times you double parked - that's your real cost.

Or you could always pay a few hundred a month for an off-street spot.

Shows to go 'ya: the more you know, the less you know.
  • It's the 28th. You got a quota ticket. Just fight it and it'll be reduced by 15 bucks.
  • Hi!

No, I wasn't in the bike lane, I had contact info in the window, and it was during the off street parking time. vidro3, I realize that I can get a parking spot in a garage, but this has never been a problem before, so I was just curious if they were cracking down all of a sudden in other people's experience. Old Time Brooklyn, do I have to have a reason when I fight it?

    Thanks,

  • I think I read elsewhere that you go online request a hearing and then a option for reduction comes up if you then agree to waive that right...

You are not missing anything, except a mindless train wreck. My brain cells scream in protest when I watch it, but ignore them.

    Back to the thread......

they automatically offer you a reduction when you pay online, i think it's $15 off a $65 ticket
  • Yes I got a parking ticket for expired inspection. Ask for a hearing online and they will offer you a reduced settlement. Its less expensive for the city to get most of fine from you instead of going to court.
  • There are a few blocks on which no double-parking occurs during alt side.
All of which, seem to have a school on them.
Were you on one of those blocks ?
Youd certainly have noticed if you were the only double parker on the block.
  • i got one once in north slope during alt sweeping. i never did it again.
  • Garfunky, no, I wasn't on a school block - a nice contractor told me about that earlier this year when I was sitting in my car wondering why nobody else was double parking on that block. I think I was the victim of end of the month quotas perhaps??
