Who will win...

... the race for my gentrified breakfast dollar?
Will it be Cheryl's Global Soul Food on Underhill, the coming bakery on Vanderbilt, or Jumpin' Juice and Java on Flatbush?
Does anyone have any updates on any of these places? I mean, I love the bodega buttered roll and all, but I'm ready for some new local AM options.

my tip: get up 1 hour early after not sleeping at all (for no good reason). scramble a couple eggs with hot sauce and chunks of white "frying" queso. toss an english muffin in the oven, slathered in salted butter. cook up a little egg patty, toss it on the e.muff and chomp.
  • there is no better breakfast
than a bodega toasted buttered roll with coffee
and a new york times on top of that

    oh yes, there is.

cuban bread spread with salted butter fresh from the sandwich press and a nice cafe con leche. fresh. made with cream or half & half.

    aw merde. you're sooooo right

    i'm talking about immediate gratification
with a side of the newspaper to go wid'it
  • Half & Half is an abomination.
  • One of my faves now: calalloo & saltfish with a fried dumpling from one of the Jamaican places. With some yellow hot pepper sauce from keyfood, its tough to beat.

this'll sound weird but the best jamaican calalloo with saltfish i've had
in the neighborhood is made by a mediterranean joint

dean street grill on 4th ave

and they've got all kinds of fish on sunday.
    all fish all the time
    ..........................
  • Coffee and a bagel with cream cheese and Nova.
  • I'll have to head down to 4th ave and check it out. I know there's a Chinese halal place near there somewhere but I can't picture the Mediterranean place yet. O - unless it's on the southwest corner of the intersection.
  • yep. it's right opposite Halal Takeout Chinese
    opposite corner

they've got a caribbean chef. so besides mediterranean
    they also serve caribbean food
