Does anyone know what's going in in the old Bagel Delight space? I fear it's a bank just because it's so totally boarded over.
-
i heard chinese restaurant, pastoralia but don't quote me on it.
i'm fairly certain it's a restaurant though. -
I thought the Chinese was going in the old Tempo space (same owners as Stone Park). Maybe I'm wrong. But there is an "uspcale" Chinese opening somewhere in PS.
-
I was at STone Park and they are not opening a chinese place there...they said they were 'too late" (not sure what that means). They think the former owner of Cucina is going there.
-
stone park guys were going to open "upscale" chinese in the former tempo place, but that's no longer happening...correct.
the old bagel delight space i heard was going to be chinese too, though.
i also heard that the tempo space was being taken over by the former cucina owner. -
Anyone know what is going on with the multitude of other empty storefronts on 7th Avenue?
I couldn't believe how many empty places there are. The old Plaza hair cutters closed up (sad for me, that place holds memories of my family), and that small gift shop a few doors down opened in their spot, but now the gift store spot is empty, Of course, Grecian is still soaped up and empty, Miracle Grill is closed down as is Living On 7th, and i know that the old SuperSavers is also stil empty, I am sure I am missing others. I can't remember the last time I saw so many empty stores on 7th and I have lived here for 25 years! -
Oh, what about the old video store on 5th Avenue across the street from Save On Fifth, what is happening there?
-
I asked about this months ago, but any updates on what's going on with the storefront on 6th ave on the SW corner of 12th St? It's looked a little bit more cleaned up lately, and I'm dying for something to be in there. Something. Anything. Bueller.
-
the bagel delight space on 5th street is going to be a greek/mediterranean restaurant, per the owner. (i saw someone authoritative looking there a few weeks ago and asked.)
I also just noticed the closed gift shop yesterday (Lumiere). Please not another cell phone store. -
another greek place when okeanos just opened a couple blocks down...?
not smart.
isn't okeanos greek too? -
Lots of Greek on that side of the street.
What happened to the Grecian Corner? -
On 5th Ave between 11/12th (between the corner mattress stores) a place called something like "Green Cafe" looks ready to open. I think it said diner and grill and maybe something else on the sign.
-
that green cafe is going to have stumptown coffee and prepared foods also.
maybe a juice bar too. not sure. -
Subject: Dolly Layla or Layla Dolly
prezst wrote: D'ja all see that ANOTHER nail salon is going-in on 7th avenue, between Lincoln and Berkeley, on the 2nd floor of the building that houses the vanity project Dolly Layla? (or is it Layla Dolly?) This appears to be in addition to the one that's supposed to go-into the old Trade Winds storefront, right across the street.
Dolly Layla or Layla Dolly, the place that is never open for business (except when they change the stuff in the window) and, yet, it keeps the storefront looking as if it was a business. Funny enough. -
dolly layla was open all weekend.
she just keeps irregular hours, but the place IS open from time to time and i often see people in there when it is open. -
There's a sign up on the old la bagel delight store-front. "Coming soon: Artisan Bread and Organic Roasted Chicken.. and more". Something 7th Ave actually needs!

Yippee!! Although another cell phone place would have been nice, too. -

I don't even know what this means...but I like it. -
More good bread...yay!

I saw that also. Funny how the sign just had those two items listed. Wonder what the "more" will be.
Make sure you go during John Jay hours. After 2:30 and on good luck. -
Bar Reis sandwich shop RIP? Sure looks that way.

Its been papered for at least 3 weeks. Things looked bad when they stopped serving lunch. -
Dang - I had takeout from there twice, tasty sandwiches both times. But they never seemed to have much foot traffic. I guess they should have done the chinese menu thing - one in every mail slot. They could have thrived.

i agree, bluecat.
from my vantage point, they did ZERO PR for the place.
some of these businesses don't seem to know the first thing about running a business. -
hated the teeny tiny cold sandwiches at bar reis. he knows how to run a bar though!
johhny macks will be taking over elementis space. -
the other thing might have been, who opens a sandwich shop directly across the street from a long time deli that makes all kinds of sandwiches and from Brooklyn Bread who also make sandwiches? You would think that would not be the optimum slot for that business!
Also, yeah, they did no advertising at all, I am not far from there and walked by there a lot, and the only way I knew it was a sandwich shop was because of you guys. -
"Reis 100" was too good to last. I knew it was doomed when they dumbed down the sandwich menu to about 20 choices, making the "100" meaningless, and added tacos. Inconsistent hours of operation also. If they would've stuck with the open till 2 am idea they might've had a chance, 'cause there are so many bars open at that time but practically nowhere to eat. But what do I know, I'm just a bar-hopper who eats a lot of food.

I'm obsessed with sp Vino(5th ave and 2nd street)...it has the aesthetic quality of a high school bully. Never been inside. Has anyone dared to enter?
My checklist of things about sp Vino that confuse the hell out of me.
1. The name.
2. Awful, borderline illiterate neon signs in the window for months.
3. This guy http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_TZihjfxkQoA/St_ZEkKu_vI/AAAAAAAAALg/Ws0PYdmFBR8/s1600-h/IMG00203-20091020-2237.jpg looking out the window.
4. Inactive twitter. 2 boring yelp reviews. No online buzz at all.
5. 2x3 foot review from the Brooklyn Eagle in the window
6. An awful sign that they erect that hangs over the sidewalk and is secured by cinderblocks (totally against regulations).
7. They never have any customers. I walk by at least 6 times a day, usually walking my dog, and I've never seen more than 4 people dining. Bizzare. -
ahahahah. that dude in bullet 3 is tripping me out...he's like the mona lisa, no matter where I stand he's staring into my eyes...
-
sp Vino: yeah that space is like an art installation designed to confuse and provoke people. First the Comfort Zone, then Zilli...
