Has anyone had any RECENT experiences with selling gold jewelry? I am not talking big ticket items but some odds and ends (one nice necklace, pair of earrings, ring and some odds and ends). Any comments or suggestions are welcomed. :? I need the cash but don't want to do a desperate rush job.

    Hi Stoop Lady,

While I haven't yet sold gold in new york, as I just moved here a year ago, the best places to resell metals are in the jewelry district. Check out professional casters, or just take a walk around 47th and 6th ave in Manhattan. That's where the center of NYC's jewelry district is, and someone there is sure to want to buy your gold, even if just to melt it down. A word to the wise, though, if they know you don't know what it's worth they'll try to lowball you, search google or visit www.riogrande.com or another metal supplier to find out the current price of gold per ounce, weigh what you've got and be sure you know what a fair asking price is. Good luck!

  • sell it to most jewerly stores for their weight. don't sell it to those scams on tv where you send it in etc.. they don't give you good value.
  • I did this recently and got 300 bucks for 3 pieces that I thought were worth nothing. They just melt it down so it doesn't matter if its broken or ugly.
I don't know of a reputable place locally, unfortunately, as I went in my hometown. Keep asking until you get a recommendation, it is totally worth it.
