Call the Verizon tech department. Be prepared by sitting in a relaxed position in front of your computer. Make sure your computer is plugged in to your modem directly and not...on your wireless. If you are at all in a hurry or at all agitated don't call.
I call late at night or as close to off peak as possible.
They will take you through the regular steps, turning off the modem, rebooting, etc. Finally...they will ask to connect into your computer/laptop to reset everything.
One time I had to have an updated modem sent to my home. Another time the IP address disappeared, etc., etc.
Good luck.
Oh, my service has been very good today in ProHo. -
Verizon DSL as slow as old molasses about 5 pm, wondered if it was Calliope MacBookPro but turned out to be Verizon.... just coming back now (6:46 pm). You're not alone. Must be the snow.
-
and now my directv is out. was there mail today? (no, i don't feel like getting dressed and walking down a mere two flights to check the mailbox... )
-
windsorfish, you're right, it's better now
-
Geez
I must be very lucky
Time Warner is up and computer is fine.
Potter.. yeah there was mail delivered.
Stay in the cocoon and don't come out till the morning. -
now i will go down the stairs, veets. my dish is out and i know there is a netflix movie in my box
-
Brooklynpotter... YUP .. at this moment .. that would get down the stairs , too.
I have been in all day. Only 2 students showed up. I need to go out to get smokes or have someone bring them to me. I have a friend close by. Just called and enticed them with Real Salmon for dinner... if they show up with a pack of ciggies.
But the good news is I have Netflixs and a long list of instant play movies in list.
But if I were you..
I would walk downstairs and snatch that movie and cuddle up and watch it. -
IF you have DIrect TV -- Be advised that cloud coverage (Southwest?), Rain, Snow, Sleet, etc., will affect your service. Call them for credit when this happens. Direct TV is by far the best selection for our area...except I wish it had NY1.

stooplady, mine very rarely goes out.

Not my experience. Might be exposure or location.

Subject: My 2 cents' worth on internet service in Brooklyn
Since I moved from Park Slope to Lefferts Gardens and switched from Time Warner to Cablevision, my cable modem service has been awesome. Even now in the snowstorm. Of course if the cable line goes down it takes the internet, TV, and landline phone all with it, but that's never happened for more than 20 minutes at a time. Of course, I live one block off Flatbush and repairs happen very quickly.
In my experience, and from what I've heard from others:
Time Warner cable=sucks
Verizon DSL=sucks
Earthlink DSL=good
Satellite=problems with the weather, and generally not good for internet
I have a Windows PC I can directly hook to the modem for troubleshooting, but I've never needed to disconnect it from my D-Link router, which does occasionally need rebooting to re-establish connectivity, usually after I've been, ahem, downloading several big files for hours on end. That and rebooting the modem by pressing its reset button are all the troubleshooting I've needed for over a year now. -
if i'm correct, the earthlink DSL goes straight through the TWC modem. service should be practically the same.
i don't like TWC and don't want to give them any $$, so since i don't need crazy fast internet--and yes, i can still stream netflix--i keep verizon. and i can bundle it with my cell.
